Ironic that in all other private sector businesses discounts on volume is standard practice, But with GBPC the more you consume the more you pay. In any case the Government aught to take issue with the GB Port Authority on numerous issues, GBPC being but one.
Ummm, and what when the parents are the abusers? I have seen dozens of children in a retail check out, reaching to touch something on a shelf get the brains slapped outta their head, and the standard parental response is "stop crying or I'll slap you!" Our society neglects our young and abandon our elderly. Am I wrong?
GBPC is in no danger of selling for less than the cost of generation, they are guaranteed a minimum 10% return on investment in their agreement with the GBPA, 10% which can easily be eroded by post hurricane repairs/and bottom line costs to stay online, in SPITE of a separate bill line item called a "Storm recovery" charge. The real issue is a lack of transparency for the public in the deal between the GBPC and the regulator, the GBPA. SImply put, Infrastructural decay, bad management, endless rental units, storm damage and market size shrinkage probably have them wanting to maintain profits at any cost to the public.
A great project and idea, obviously there is a need, but, Local support and Donations? Everyone local is struggling, many businesses were either wiped out by Dorian or Covid, those who have come back are struggling! Philanthropy is at way lower levels post economic trauma. I wish you success in any case.
But wait, didn't one of the vaccines cause heart issues for some young people? And the vaccine does nothing to stop transmission, it just reduces the symptoms in those who are exposed and catch it. It could actually be said that those who are vaccinated and catch covid have no symptoms and therefore go out and about spreading it around!
So, unlike the Competent Authority, which had an expiry date, this mini-me wants the power, and permanently. Everything above up to the travel requirements is just taking stupid in a new direction. Not surprising. Prepare for more desperation, joblessness, crime, frustration, hunger.
the real purpose of VAT was never debt reduction, although that was espoused as the purpose, but rather duty elimination per WTO accession, as condition of WTO membership. The lost revenue from duty reductions to between 8-10% across the board would be made up by VAT, however the Bahamas negotiated a time line/deadline of 2025 to normalize duty rates. The hope was early VAT would give a revenue bump. You will note that VAT is applied to duty on imports, in effect double taxation. The debt reduction line was politics, pure and simple. BTW, We cut and paste legislation from other commonwealth countries because we are incapable of writing our own, nor do we look at each piece of legislation in the context of overall legal structures or taxation structures. And we still aren't a member of WTO.............
Absolutely reprehensible that the Government is attempting to absolve themselves of any responsibility for the actions of one branch of their responsibility. What next? Perhaps in stead of large monetary awards Cabinet would prefer personal responsibility with Jail time? Reduce your liability by policing your police force!
Monitoring something he has no control over. Zero business acumen. I seriously doubt business are in bed with politicians, Most are wondering why they keep plodding along in spite of Government ineptitude and increasing regulation/red tape. Most are still in business in spite of themselves. Not organized enough to be in cahoots with anyone. I will say this, without the merchants you won't have squat. Zero. Probably the last thing you want to collapse. Lose local investor confidence and collapse happens faster than you can say "what, no grits?"
