That he even annunciates and advocates for the primary plague of the Bahamas since 1969: cronyism. Greasing the wheels, patting the backs, shingles. Insanity.
If Government built housing has taught us anything over the last 50 years, it is that they a) cannot provide value for money, b) anything they build will be shoddy, c) they don't behave themselves politically when allocating/awarding housing. I will never forget the round homes off of Harold road, from the late 60's early 70s. And what else have we learned from low cost housing over the years? somehow people find the money to turn the original low cost house into the foyer of a much larger house within a few years. So, larger lots, smaller initial house footprint with a design that facilitates the expansion they will do anyway.
The two of them riding off into the sunset would bode well for the Bahamas. There isn't a room large enough for the combined arrogance displayed during their respective terms.
Dr Johnson is admitting she and her dept has no clue and no process (their job?). She aught to be following up with the local importers and have them appraise the public that they either did or did not import said onions, and include that in her statement!
If we ever had a government intelligent enough to understand the problem with the GBPC and GBPA we might actually fix their exorbitant rates for the public good. The lack of an enabling national policy enables the GBPC to create their own, which is garbage. Follow the money trail, see who profits. It ain't URCA.
Various Government departments have, over the years, taken great liberties in process beyond what the various acts provide for. We, the Bahamian public have allowed this, through our ignorance of the written law as it pertains to whatever Government service we are needing. Authority is legitimate, often the exercised power is not.
But doesn't it illustrate just how screwed up the political system is? Board appointments, Civil service positions filled not by capable people but simply by the loyal. And we wonder why the water in the bowl circles the drain as it goes down.
Basically they cannot help themselves, that the Bahamian people think somehow they will be helped by electing and re-electing them astounds me. But you do invariably get what you asked for.
