The roof top leasing or Lease to own cannot happen without financing, which cnnot happen without an enabling national policy. Currently getting shuffled between Ministry of work, URCA and BEC/BPL is an endless loop of stagnation.
The solution is for the general Public to be able to handle their own energy needs, via financing that would be available IF the Bahamas actually had a workable and easy to navigate policy. The uptake by the general public for their homes, and Commercial buildings etc would reduce the demand on BEC/BPL significantly, and reduce the strain on their antiquated Transmission and distribution system which they themselves always blame for outages. But isn't it funny, they don't want to lose the ability to inconvenience customers and still bill them insane rates. They don't want to disturb the entrenched fuel oil supply chains.
People get tired of the Political Rhetoric, promises that vanish, overall corruption, nepotism, waste of the limited resources, ineptitude. Add to that potential Covid exposure, snap election, and a serious anti Minnis sentiment, and splinter groups bleeding off votes but still winning no seats, you get a flip flop. Again.
The election was a simple referendum against Minnis personally. Nothing more or less, aside the fact that we vote and have been voting against, not for. He needs to step down, period. The infantile state of mind of the majority of voters doesn't help either. Run a D-, earn a D-, live with a D-. i await the appointments to see if this is same old or new. I suggest they all read the rules of the house to abide by the limitations of their authority. There is no power to be wielded, only authority under the rule of law.
Hopefully the investment portfolio will not amount to stop review cancel and stall. Glad Obie is not in tourism, old dead ideas. Time will shortly tell on the rest.
Can you imagine the dead weight a Prime Minister would have to shovel out of the way to even get near talented people or to get talented people to opt in?The decades people spend in either party trying to get to the top, to move from dust to crumbs, stay in favor. Therein lies the problem, Party structure. Loyalty over substance.
Bahamians vote against the arrogance that appears soon after an election. Pray this new administration does not fall into that well worn trap. Just as EVERY former administration was far from perfect, with bad apples and good, each did accomplish some good things, even if slowly and painfully. Build on those. I Pray it is a new day for the new administration. PROVE those who believe the worst are wrong. Forward, Upward, Onward, Together, I pray.
Simply confirms that Bahamians vote against, not for. In the context of Hurricanes and Covid this administration had an uphill battle, and screwed up quite a bit in the process in their own right. But as long as Bahamians vote tribally we will flip flop, and continue to vote against personal arrogance. Neither party has reached beyond their loyal base or internal pecking order to elicit viable solutions to National issues. the appointments and positions awarded will tell us in short order if it is indeed a "new day" or the same old. One can hope.
So aside the Red and Yellow Blind faith, we need to consider that this administration was hit by Dorian's aftermath and Covid. Both unprecedented events either party would have struggled with, given their typical incompetencies. Either would have had to deal with Rogue Defense force officers, local administrators hoarding relief supplies, and generally getting in the way. In all seriousness, do we need a change out at this point? Would it not be better to have a second term government in the midst of what we are buried under? To have a "new wave" of thieves pillaging the treasury would be acceptable? To assume a "new" administration would do better is pure folly no matter their promises. In any case, the whole sordid affair is disappointing and depressing to say the least. Let's get through it peacefully as we have to live with the consequences.
