Sorry, but for a cadre of people with so called high ethics, there sure are quite a few with the ethics of an alley cat. I also believe they're upset that there are now too many Realtors, so therefore want to Suspend the exams and qualification system to become licensed. Perhaps she might wrote an article on that subject also.... Seems an awful lot like closing the barn door to others once oneself is inside.
500? Try talk about 4000! Fox hill prison was originally built for 400, Y'all been stuffing it over full since then! The stadium was a waste of time, the Chinese should have built a prison instead. Zero imagination, zero logistical skills. Zero vision.
Part of the problem is that successive Customs administrations have to start from scratch in their knowledge base, and most often are mis informed. Their assumptions are based on fallacies long since discarded by the private sector, and in at least 7 court cases providing legal definitions and allowable practices. Government has never won a case, nor won an appeal (if ever appealed). This is statute law, not personal whim of Prime Minister or Comptroller. The HCA provides for these "conditionally duty free" supplies and materials, which Bahamas Customs refuses to acknowledge, preferring instead to classifying all said imports as forever "Bonded". This is their primary mistake. All of their successive failures stem from this fallacy. All so easily fixable. But not with Click to Clear as presently configured.
Each new administration, both political and appointed heads of customs and ministry of finance, has a poke at Freeport and the HCA. The port Authority could care less as they can still get the perks while being the Caribbean’s largest slumlord. In fact, in the last attack, the Port moved to exempt themselves from taxation but threw the licensees under the bus! At the end of the day, fools play with fools, and fools run the country. They never learn from mistake or success.(have there been any?) if there is a pile steaming on the sidewalk, they will most assuredly put their foot in it. It has been proven that licensees can beat them back. Unseat these idiots and try the next set. It sure gets old.
A frigging 20 year old idea presented as "brain storming?" That idea got shut down by the FNM and PLP decades ago. As was LNG, the Land and Sea park, hell to many to mention.
They learn nothing from successive storms, Andrew, Floyd,Francis, Jean, Wilma, Sandy, Irma,Matthew, for the simple reason of zero continuity of the Civil servants having to deal with these storms as they occur. To say nothing of the switching Political leadership we suffer. Each administration has nothing to go on from prior admins, and initiate their own fiascos and confusions. The NEMA act says what powers they have, but they still don'thave an operations manual! (otherwise called a field manual) They also refuse to listen to those who do know what to do, often interfering with efforts that work and work fast. And it will happen again, with Government as always, unprepared.
Your three wishes are but the inevitable outcomes of three more succinct wishes that could be wished: 1) flush the entire lot of visionless petty and corrupt political cadre down the pipes. Endlessly electing apologists for ineptitude will reap endless suffering and misery. We need enablers. Particularly those who would enable Bahamians. 2) Wish that Bahamians would nurture their children, talk to them, help them develop abstract thought. Stop slapping them to stop them from crying! Teachers will (should) understand this concept. Abstract thought develops between the ages of 8-12. It is the stuff dreams are made of. it is sorely lacking. And in those who develop it we beat it out of them. 3) grow some shame to balance this fictitious Bahamian "pride" we roll out at every turn. You cannot have one without the other. Ying and Yang. Correct these deficiencies first and foremost. We are not special. We live in special and beautiful circumstances, We still screw it up at every turn. 4) yeah yeah, I know, 3 wishes only. But for Lords sake, ditch the blind un-questioning tribal party allegiances to Red/Yellow /Green (yeah, I know, green what?) It is so self destructive, Learn to think for yourselves as individuals, the BS will become so obvious! Buying into the Party lies and fallacies (either) has us exactly where we are by default. AKA there is no plan. Never has been one. We are in deep purely by accident. But hey, we followed the collective idiots.
Increasing salaries adds to inflation also. It is an upward spiral. Shortages, Containers piled up on the port docks, the Freeze in Texas destroyed major petroleum refineries which created shortages of plastics (think rubbermaid) Fiberglass and resin and Biden cancelled the pipeline, causing Gas and diesel to increase. As it stands, the U.S. is paying people more to stay home than they made actually working. Restaurants are short staffed, as are many farms. A major U.S. meat packing plant got hacked and shut down by hackers. Let's not talk about plywood and lumber prices and shortages. PVC pipe prices have increased, again due to raw petroleum materials shortages.
