But is it $1M and hassle, delay, stall, dither as usual, or $1M and expedite? If you are trying to attract high net worth individuals you cannot treat them as you would Bahamians needing Drivers Licenses, passports, and any and all sundry other necessary permits and approvals needed. But that does bring into question the obvious problem with any and all systems of approval, permits, documents etc.
Minnis is literally selling large chunks of the Bahamas, and to not so desirable foreign interests in the face of Bahamians who can develop it. Disgraceful.
When a prime minister shows such remedial contempt for the Bahamian public we must really question our whole premise. Government coercion by hook or by crook. A national disgrace as we watch them squirm under the back lash of the very mistrust of government they have created. Were it not so serious it would be laughable.
Only when a newly elected government actively prevents its newly elected Cabinet Ministers in G.B. being immediately subjugated by the port authority executive and ownership can that government hold the Port Authority accountable. The status quo in Freeport is untenable. The REEF report is a perfect metaphorical picture of the Reef Freeport has foundered upon.
Government missed a golden opportunity to quickly study the actual losses to our tourism via Covid, Bay st revenue, landing taxes revenue (including the rebates of those taxes) dockage fees etc. Would have ben a great opportunity to reset the whole Dime a dozen cruise ship tourism market benefits. They will be needing us badly. Typical, crying and desperate to get the skinny chicken that died back, instead of looking to a different Livestock or opportunity. Zero forward thinking, always backwards.
Is the PM even intelligent enough to know he can ask for the same? Our position on wto, oecd, the U.N. etc etc has been one of default caused by a lack of negotiating continuity, for 30 years. We have put our foot in every mud puddle along the road. We switch negotiating teams as some would change underwear. We lurch from pillar to post as they are moved! Add to that the fact that Government administrations have hidden the information and agreed to principles from the private sector who will have to cope and deal with it all!
The Ship of Freeport has hit the REEF. No Captain, Navigator, not even a lighthouse keeper.(Government) No Government has ever acted as a government can and should with respect of Freeport. Few in Government have even understood Freeport and the H.C.A. agreement. (statutory) The Reef Report is vapid, inane, banal. Zero substance.
