The issue is not so much the exact number of cases, but the % that will require hospitalization, ventilators, meds, In that respect I doubt we have 20 ventilators? Maybe 40? Does anyone know? Will Dr's Hospital participate in Covid-19 treatment? They better go beg another Samaritans purse Inflatable hospital or repurpose the one we have if still in G.B. Set it up on Athol Island, the last quarantine Location needed/used (for Cholera I think?).
Regulate them. Underinsured is a scam to deny compensation, over insured is fraud. Rock and a hard place. On the Vehicles, they payout but charge a salvage fee if you want to keep the vehicle. That is suspect. Meanwhile it is the Insurance Co employees who put the written off vehicles back on the market!
As with Hurricanes, although a totally foreseeable event, there is no plan, or capacity on hand for the unexpected. A sorry assed position laid directly at the feet of the elected, no matter the color of your flag.
Anytime you have a 3 way contract, someone loses. Medical Insurance is a good case in point. Hurricane Insurance is another. Insurers, re-insurers, carriers and agents. Let's not forget adjusters. But what else can you expect from an unregulated industry. Meanwhile it appears Government insures nothing. That inspires confidence.
Mr Sand would do well to consult with some of the NGO's who have been on the ground in both G.B. and Abaco. Maybe speak to them before you throw them out. One million Man hours worth of competent contractors. 5000 Contractors, 4 years to rebuild. Can you find 500 competent contractors? Are they willing to move to Abaco, live in tents to get the job done? Contractors are thin on the ground in G.B, but are taking peoples money left right and center but don't show up.Shoddy workmanship. Rates/prices going up. Because they can. logistics bottlenecks. Maybe you need some foreign workers to stabilize what is turning into a costing mess. Or is this just a work permit/political silly season echo?
Meanwhile there is a 30 odd ft hill to the immediate south of the terminal building which didn't flood........ the airstrip will always flood, no real issue there, it is the facilities that need elevating. We won't go into the fact that after Frances the terminal was to be elevated 20 plus feet but it never ended up that high......... A comedic tragedy of errors.
Government, be it elected or appointed, will always have this phobia and intrinsic aversion to empowering Bahamians. They'll run hat in hand to a foreigner every single time and get swing, give away the whole farm, not having the intelligence to see what the other side see. This is not to say Foreign investment or foreigners are bad, but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth of Bahamians when they get treated with contempt time and time again. Aught to be a psychological profile study done to identify the mental deficiency that breeds this abhorrent, repeated proclivity.
