I think that was a blessing in disguise, I was longing for that to get demolish, just pass that a while ago, place is an eye sore. I think it was sold when HAI was in power, but resession kick in and the fella never look back. About November I pass there and sure enough a few big buses and government people was looking at it, mussee try ta sell it ahahah its a mess
I found this story and decided to post. the PLP was the government then, we all familiar with this, its just happened in 2016.
BY Steven Stradbrooke ON November 01, 2016 tags: baha mar, bahamas, chow tai fook enterprises The Chinese conglomerate looking to buy the $3.5b Baha Mar resort is pushing back against allegations that it’s “unsuited” to do business in the Bahamas. Late last week, word broke that Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE) was negotiating the purchase of the unfinished Baha Mar resort from its Chinese bank owners. On Sunday, Dionisio D’Aguilar, a former director of the project’s original developer, publicly accused CTFE of (among other things) having links to Chinese criminal organizations. On Tuesday, the Bahamas Tribune published written responses from CTFE to D’Aguilar’s public broadside, which included a claim that CTFE had been denied gaming licenses in the United States. CTFE countered this claim by saying it “has never applied for a casino license in the US.” CTFE is controlled by the family of the late Cheng Yu Tung, a Hong Kong billionaire who died in September at the age of 91. Cheng held a 10% stake in STDM, the parent company of Macau casino operator SJM Holdings – the likely source of D’Aguilar’s claims re failed US licensing. In 2010, gaming regulators in Atlantic City forced MGM Resorts to choose between their ownership of the Borgata casino and their Macau joint venture with Pansy Ho, daughter of SJM founder Stanley Ho, after determining that the elder Ho was too chummy with alleged members of Hong Kong’s triads. CTFE told the Tribune that the Cheng family’s role in SJM “is strictly as an investor with no involvement of day-to-day management of the casino or oversight of the gaming industry in Macau.” The family stressed that “there will be no affiliation on [Baha Mar] with STDM or SJM.”
The Then Government, PLP trusted these guys even though much noise was made against it. I made noise too, they had a with shady past, now we see the hotel starting to come into its own, and its just the beginning. So now the shoe is on the other foot, another "shady project" I am convinced its all for political votes, That we talked about doing ease of business, but in reality, we always hurt our own self with our mouth, the world is watching all this stupidness, why should they invest here...I rest my case. That Krieger fella is not OBAN, he is an individual, But we interested in the company OBAN, not Krieger,
I gave this some taught, if Fred defends every so call illegal, he stands to make a ton of money if those Immigration officers doesn't get those persons to court in a timely manner, it will be civil side of the cases he will focus on, and he stands to win them all based on the constitution, if those persons are charge and not sent to court within a 48 hours period. That is hard considering the officers have to make up court files just as the police do. I'm wondering what other lawyers is also looking at this in this sense. I hope no one else get on board, it may be a money making affair for them all as they will file law suits against the government..
Maybe they should just shut it down and send OBAN home, that should make a lot of people happy, I'm still reminded of the shady pass of Wallace Groves, one of the GB port authority and Freeport founder and the current owner of Bahamar, all shady, but like most bad people there are good in most of them... Shut OBAN down!!!
I hope we don't see any more construction....or if we do let's hope its done with building code, now for sure the police and immigration better keep an eye on that empty space, anything new pop up it would be time to investigate...
Well I am quite aware of that area, its all pine barren, miles of it so if there is no problem with statoil having environmental issues I'm certain there would be a problem with OBAN. It's miles and miles of nothing, but i quite agree with Dr. Darville, EIA should have been first, that makes good business sense.
BORCO still gives of fowl odor, a school had to be closed down because of it, but you think any Bahamian government will close it down? I think not. There was envirnomental talk with the Bimini Bay Resort project, it was doom long before it started....really? You folks put a smile on my face.. Ill bet RUBIS in your home town still open... but we made all kind a about that, but they still open... that what we do, make noise and its is always in color, red or gold. I ask the Lord to allow me to live to witness the opening of our 3rd oil refinery here on the island, Then ill see what other noise will be made on here hehehe
Well its shows that successive governments have poured all the money into Nassau and in part , Freeport. Abaco is almost totally independent of the government, seems those family islands doesn't matter except some investor comes along and they put in place the necessary things for that islands to have modern facilities. No wonder people leave and go to Nassau. I see Chester Cooper complaining about Ragged Island, heck Ill be surprise if that every comes back on stream... only a fool will want to be a commissioner of police or a Prime Minister. I wish them well
You know something? Ill bet if the government change right now, tomorrow Brave will be on the other side of this OBAN deal, he will be trying to push it like mad man. Sort of remind me of the Bahamar sale, I see the now PM was one who was against the buyer, now Bahamar is the country savior... its just politricks... I listen to Glynis Hanna makin' noise, I guess they want OBAN to fail, I hope it succeed highly, just like Bahamar
I often wonder why Bahamians dem don't come together and do somethin' for they own country for a change. I believe the way we does carry on here we gat money... we gatty have it, as all we always do is sit back and criticize, we sit here lookin at things in red and Gold, we sit here and make lots of noise, but when the smoke all clear we still gat nuttin , we never put nuttin in place where we cud say das Bahamian not a foreigner gig... that ain ga never happen. The job line long, they say they cudda find a better place for the job fair; they say they ain gat no job, the gobmon dem gatty do somethin, So they do something with a crook we say, nar the fella gettin lambase, ok fine, so who ga now step up to the plate and build the bloody oil refinery? any a we? It was the same mess in Bimini, the enviornment impact study, it was doom to fail... looka at it nar? I really get a kick out of reading these post, but it shows our true colors, no Bahamian own nuttin, nuttin, nuttin, I luv dis man!!
