Insurance companies never lose money, and for years have increased homeowners insurance in the Bahamas, when we had no hurricane damage, but blaming it on damges and claims experienced elsewhere. Now that New Providence and Grand Bahama have been directly affected, they have an open pathway to shaft us even more. Government really should ensure that these gangsters are not allowed to rape and pillage already suffering customers.
The only way for them to get ready to battle is to prepare to strike. The unions have already threatened to "shut the country down" over what is a normal business decision by an international hotel chain. Shut it down you idiots, and see how much support you get from the Bahamian people. Your leaders are fat cats and only look out for their pockets. These threats and innuendos are counter productive to developing investor confidence in the Bahamas, whether international or local. Carry on smartly, perhaps you have something on the government that only you know about, but remember, the decision to Nolle this matter is legal, and shutting down the country is illegal. You may find yourselves praying for a Nolle.
The reality of Bamsi is that if the fruit/vegetables/spices/whatever are not up to international standards even Bahamians will not buy them. Just go by the Produce Exchange and look at all of the rotting produce. A governmental regulation prohibiting the imports of all products produced at Bamsi would force the public to purchase the products, but this will not go over well with the tourist industry who require top of the line items to provide their guests. Before Bamsi there was the cattle producing project on Andros, which failed, and who can forget the infamous Ferro Cement Fishing Boat Project. The Japanese provided the equipment necessary to farm lobsters in the Bahamas and the last time I saw this equipment it was rotting behind the produce exchange on Potters Cay. Production of produce is one thing, successful marketing, another. An excellent article Mr. Smith.
So, if she apologizes, Mr. Ferguson, does that mean that you will not shut the country down any more, and accept her Nolle decision? You and your unions will be the force behind many business closures in this country. Your members will suffer, but your train is already full of gravy.
No matter your political beliefs, the content of that song were disgusting and vulgar. I am not a supporter of the Prime Minister or the PLP, but I refuse to believe that it is necessary to viciously degrade a mans family because you don't like his politics. Fine, degrade him, but none of you would like your wives or daughters to be degraded so vulgarly. No one deserves that. Is this what we have come to? Autism is a very difficult thing for any parent to deal with, and it is not a PLP, FNM, or DNA, political problem, but rather a very trying problem that many Bahamian families face daily.
There is little doubt that she made the right decision. However, the question remains as to why this matter was being considered by the AG's office in the first place. It would seem to me that this should have been quashed from inception. Also the question remains as to why her boss, the PM, and the Minister of Labour and DPM all claim that they were kept in the dark about her decision. Apparently, the decision to "Nolle" this matter was made some time ago, but never communicated by the AG. Does the tail wag the dog in our system? Regardless of the Constitution, we all know who runs the show in our country.
Big Bad Brad issued a press statement of support for the AG's Nolle decision, now party leaders are saying that they are in the dark about the same thing. Are the Chairman and the "kept in the dark leaders", in the same party? How is it that he is not complaining about being "kept in the dark"? Is this just another party front by those claiming to be "kept in the dark", to appease the unions? Would someone please turn on the lights.
If it was a "leak" it means that someone in the Registrar Generals's Dept. is complicit. If the system was hacked it is a different ballgame, one that in the AG's office is way out of their league. The AG reffered to it as a leak, so go and arrest the person or persons responsible. Show us how "swift justice" works. I await with bated breath.
Now the boys will get one more chance to milk the cow before elections. All of these wonderful things are happening at BahaMar, but still no one knows who are the owners. I wonder if the EXIM Bank knows who they are lending the money to. There are some devious spinners in this web.
