What is all this hurrah about? Does anyone really think that an NHI bill will change the pathetic wait times and treatment at PMH? Bahamians have waited, and still will have to wait, indefinite hours for service, and most times have to line up behind illegal immigrants for this "service". The political bandying about a paper bill means nothing, if the root cause of the ineffective public health service is not addressed. Debate all you want, then get off of your backsides and walk through A&E and the Public Wards. See what the people are really receiving and then maybe, just maybe, you will begin to understand the magnitude of the health care problem.
If the ruling party had their way, we would regress to the days of LOP when when had one radio station, which was government controlled(and still is), and there would be no other venue to listen to, or express opinions not approved by the government. They tried to muzzle KB but that did not work, because he had the support of the people, and are now trying to stifle social media. If what you say praises them, it is permissible, but otherwise watch your back They will learn soon enough, the folly of their gestapo tactics.
It is too early in the day to rule out other challengers for the leadership, and maybe Brave will do so. Mr. Sears is one of the better candidates the party has for leader. As an old schoolmate of his, I wish him well.
I too, say congratulations to Ms. Morley and Mr. Tynes and wish the best for all of our athletes at the Olympics. No matter what your country and people are proud of you. Having read the same article as "Thisisours" I am confused as to why he said "one sentence" when the six of the first seven paragraphs were devoted to Tynes performance. Why must we always infer prejudice or racism in everything that is reported. A Bahamian athlete is a Bahamian athlete, period. Perhaps Mr. Tynes refusal to speak to the media, may have been a factor in why nothing was reported about his personal feelings after the competition.
So, he has finally spoken since going mute just before the convention. He did not say much, but it is more likely that he will offer, as Minnis has stated there is no victimization fallout as a result of opposition by Neilly and Co. He has been a fairly good representative of his constituency, which tribune, is North not South Eleuthera.
This is just another indication, that in spite of what our illustrious Minister of Tourism says, all is not well in the tourist industry. Room occupancy figures are down (Ask Atlantis). Just imagine if Bahamar was open and the additional 3,000 rooms were thrown into the mix. Hotel owners do what it takes to survive, and unions do their best to ensure they don't. When the cost of doing business in the Bahamas is factored in with the high crime rate, the increasing competition, the decrease in room occupancy, and the ever increasing union demands (which are protected by the Labour Board), and our inconsistent utility supplies, it does not take a genius to figure out what the next step is.
Perhaps Mr. Lightbourn should have also included the neutering of the Bahamian "studs" who father these children and then leave the mothers to raise them without and support, either financial or emotional. In a society of equal rights it is unfair to create law for one person, for an act that in fact takes two people to perform. If he had mentioned castration after two illigetimate children for men, we would have a whole new outlook, on the veracity of his proposal.
If you know Richard Lightbourn you should know that he is going to say what he wants no matter who says to or not. His position is clearly not that of the fnm, plp, dna, or the majority of Bahamian people, black or white. He has inflicted the damage that the "dissident six" intended to do in the first place, and created chaos in the party, all the while knowing that they had no chance of wresting leadership from Dr. Minnis.. Has anyone heard anything from Chipman, or Theo? Their mouths have gone quiet. Theo I can understand, because he works for the brother of Richard and knows where his bread is buttered. It seems to be the general consensus that the PLP and FNM style of government is one and the same, with just a change in the name of the cronies who get rich. The DNA can't win a seat. So do we choose the lesser of two evils or vote for a party that has no chance? My choice is the lesser of two evils.
