Also, the fact of the matter is that our unemployment rate is HIGHER today than when the PLP was voted into government. Therefore those 8-9 thousand jobs do not amount to anything to brag about. WAKE UP, your blind faith is not in the best interest of the nation, only your beloved PLP. The more i read your comments the more I am certain you are a CRONY and exactly what is wrong with the bahamas today! You do not want what is best for the country, you want what is best for YOU and your plp, right?
Once again the point of the editorial has flown over your head. This is about the corrupt practice of giving jobs to supporters who do not have the skills to do said job just because they are party supporters. Do you birdie, believe that every Bahamian taxpayer should have to carry the burden of paying a person to do a job that they are not qualified to do? Do you believe that it is OK for Bahamians to receive inferior and at time no work from a civil servant and still pay them handsomely? If you owned a business, would you hire your boy to work for you if they could not do the job at hand? Would you feel that is fair to the other workers that would have to cover him and work double to cover his slackness? Be real now, if you can? Tell me if you believe this is what is best for The Bahamas? Try to be honest without your political blinders on!
No, I do not think so. If it continues as is, sooner or later things will come to a head. The longer the people are abused the worse it will be. I do not condone violence but i do predict there will be some if the politicians continue to ignore the "little man" in favor of special interests. If any political party thinks that they can run this country as their own little kingdom, they better think twice. The power of the people is something that should not be played with. Time for our politicians to wake up and shape up.
Just as gays in the U.S. are able to wed, Marijuana will be legal in the U.S in the next decade. Meanwhile the Bahamas will still be sending young men up to Fox Hill and ruining their lives for a joint. The "drug war" has not worked and will not work, lets face facts. It would be better to legalize it, tax it, and regulate it, just like the web shops. People have been using Marijuana from before Jesus walked the earth, you think some misplaced law will ever stop that?
The Bahamas of today would be much different if the civil service was manned by competent individuals who deserved their job because of their qualifications not their party ties. The way it is today is just another form of corruption. Every Bahamian is being done a disservice and paying the price for this vote buying scheme. It is vote buying straight, plain, and simple.
Why do you think that stealing is so ingrained in the Bahamas? We learn from our leaders and emulate them. We see the corruption and we see that NO ONE is held accountable or brought to justice so why not do it ourselves. Our supposed leaders have set the bar very low. Bahamians are not stupid, we know what is going on. This country is small and Bahamians love to talk. Who do these supposed leaders think they are fooling? We know they are crooked and therefore if it takes being crooked as well to get ahead many if not the majority of Bahamians will stoop to the level of our supposed leaders to do just that.
Exactly! If there is something that is not supposed to be happening and is NOT in the best interest of the Bahamian people, the person or persons who know about it have a responsibility to make it known. By NOT reporting said actions or behavior YOU are just as much a traitor as the person committing the transgression. The problem in The Bahamas is that everyone in any sort of government job seems to be doing some sort of corrupt or illegal activity, so no one will stand up and do what is right. Therefore, the 85% of us regular Bahamians are totally screwed.
I would love to know the exact figure the building cost in the first place. We will never know because we do not have a Freedom of Information act and the government will treat the number as a highly sensitive state secret to shield any corrupt practices from being exposed. The people of The Bahamas are being raked over the coals by unethical, greedy, traitor's known as politicians and their croney's. We elect the same kleptocrats time and again. When will we as a people who are being abused take our country back from those that have and are abusing us? How hard do we have to be beaten with the economic whip of our oppressors before we rise up?
