I don't think they should be but I think our education system is at that point now. I went to an all boys school abroad and its a fact that boys act differently when girls are not around.
This won't effect much do to the multitude of other problems education faces. Let's try paying our teachers more and on time and getting parents more involved in the children's schooling.
No Bodie your party has not stepped up to the challenge, there has been no progress on crime and gang war. Cost of living is higher than ever before with minimum wage going up by a dollar and some change.
Economy is stagnant because tourism is failing and tiny percentage of Bahamians benefit from banking if any, Education has downgraded. Healthcare is very poor, while cancer, hypertension and obesity and diabetes are up.
You the PLP, made gambling legal against the peoples' referendum vote and made a few men billionaires by privatizing an industry the people should own.
"Economic Empowerment"???--There are no jobs or career jobs,The process of opening a business is overly expensive and long!
What percentage Bahamians own homes? What percentage pays rent?
Bodie your party has done nothing in government but downgrade the country's wealth and confuse the the people who were foolish enough to trust you years ago.
What can we Bahamian say we do well for ourselves as a country beside play numbers, play church, play sports and drink ?
Isn't it a coincidence that resort is opening the same year as the election? Wasn't it suppose to open years ago? Aren't these resorts always owned by foreigner? And to China who is a trade enemy of the US where I'm sure you've gone a few times.
Bah Mars jobs won't save the country's economy. We have a job problem because we have a tourism problem. Hotels in freeport are closed until may. Atlantis hasn't turned a profit in years and when they do it will be taken out of the country.
If we seriously want to help the economy. Legalize Marijuana...countries and even US states where it is legal have constant tourism traffic and decrease CRIME because you take the value of the dealers product.
But I am realistic this wont happen in the Bahamas for the next 60 years
"Who is benefiting from crime? " This is a great question. Who would benefit from the prison being full? This is also an issue in the US. Full prisons usually mean big money for people with private interest. Who supplies the prisons with clothes, food and other materials. We know that conflict of interest is rampant.
The issue could also be that the investigation unit is just that bad in gathering evidence against these criminals. Friends that have served on jury duty always speak of how poorly the police build evidence. No legitimate forensic labs and poorly trained investigators.
The point that you should not have children if you cannot care for them because you burden yourself, the child and society. And if you cannot care for them and still want to have children and raise them poor, fine but that is no blame to the government because you know the consequences.
It's common knowledge that the government isn't going to help you with your child so why put yourself in that position?
What percentage of young women in this country you beleive intended to get pregnant? Or wish they hadn't gotten pregnant.
You are misunderstanding me. I started by saying people have the right to have as much children as they want as long they can care for it. When you cannot care for the child you are putting strain on everyone including yourself and the child. Continuing the cycle of poverty when you know the government will not assist you. Now you will be poor and so will your children.
To your points comparing Haitian women and Bahamian women. Haitian women purposely over breed when they get here. And even if the fact reflects the same in Haiti, I do not beleive that is a trend the Bahamian people want to follow because it obviously is not helping their society, just breed more poverty.
And it is all our business because this falls on the taxpayers. So like i said we must educate our young men and women on unwanted pregnancies.
Serious crimes being down 26% isn't anything to talk about. Simply but if you had 10 serious crimes, you now have just over 7.
However the commissioner has a point. In most communities the people know who the offenders are, the thieves, murders, drug dealers etc.. and don't speak up out of fear or simply minding their own business until it hits home. Additionally our judiciary system comes off as lenient because these offenders are back streets within weeks.
I recommend the police hosting events in these communities to build relationships. From very young our young men are being taught by friends and family in some cases that the police is the enemy, their oppressor. This in a sense is also understandable because how to you openly speak to some who only interact with when there is trouble? So naturally there is fear.
Judiciary system needs to put in place a minimal holding time for these serious crimes especially murder and if this is against our laws, bring it to the vote of the people and make the necessary changes. Our system has no teeth and the criminals know that.
This may be true but the country needs major shift right now. If he wants to be in office he needs to jump ship fast or prepare to be chillin for the next 5 years.
