BPL has no right charging business a demand surcharge. They have no demand. It is stealing plain and simple. I am shocked no one has taken legal action regarding this charge as of yet. They are admitting they do not have the capacity. So how can you charge a business a demand charge so you have the capacity available when they need it?
Lots of things like cars are now zero duty but the tax was changed to excise tax. Many things are now duty free but are switched to excise tax. It's all smoke and mirrors.
" the private sector - had “to raise their standard” " lol that is rich coming from the Bahamas government. Their bar is as low as it has ever been. Ease of doing business rating will be lowest on earth soon.
Y'all think it's bad now. Wait till the new customs single window hits Arawak Cay in Nassau in September like it did Abaco 2 weeks ago. People working night day weekends and holidays just to get freight off the dock.
So many business in this country just hanging on for life, not making profits just treading water and paying a few peoples salary. If things don't improve more will close and cause a domino effect that might take a whole slew of companies with it. The government and civil service people just do not get it.
Don't worry next week we can celebrate lndependence. D average schools with no books and toilet paper, unreliable power, water problems, no soap and toilet paper in the airports, children's ward in pmh begging the public for donations, and the list goes on but, take heart and celebrate owning a hotel in Grand Bahama and massive tax breaks and give aways for Disneys 2nd private cruise port. Oh and a couple hundred grand so the prisoners can build their own beds.
