Until we start budgeting for maintenance when constructing a new building, bridge, or road etc. as part of the cost of new infrastructure we will always have this problem. Many many things the government does has no maintenance plan and we do not get the life out of the building etc. and when we do finally try to repair or fix it, the costs are much higher or it has to be completely replaced. Before you build something you should know how you are going to maintain it for the next 10-20 years. It is basic planning!
What about the employers and employees waiting excessive amounts of time for payment of legitimate claims from NIB? Can we prosecute NIB? People pay and pay get sick and hurt on the job and wait a year or more for sick pay. By that time you done starved to death, had your power cut off and been evicted or lost your home.
We bought these new ATRs because (under plp) they were supposed to be more fuel efficient and less maintenance. How is now their budget going up after 2-3 years? Something is amiss.
So the hotels get 2.5 billion worth of tax free imports and it is the Airbnb home/room renters that need to be taxed? Lol Hell just 10% tax could plug our deficit. Average Bahamians paying through their eyes and noses.
“We are mindful of the uneven playing field that this has created concerning hotels and have moved to level the playing field"
Are vacation renters now going to get concession under the hotel encouragement act to get stuff duty free and property tax exceptions? What kind of level playing field is this supposed to be?
Exactly. What is really south of Marsh Harbour? Cherokee, Crossing Rocks, and Sandy point? Probably around a thousand people maybe 1500 and all those developments you mentioned can't employ them or create enough economic activity? This resort wont change a thing and if anything threatens their current income of living off the sea. Somehow I do not think growing up living in a fishing village type lifestyle and not that there is anything wrong with that translates into being qualified as a butler in this "fancy" resort.
