You are SUCH A f*KIN jackas* it is amazing. You are one of those people who seek to provoke people in the most negative way ever. Come on man, everyone is entitled to their opinion but you are such a TROLL bey, just looking for reactions and I guess you got it from me. We already have so much negativity when it comes to race relations here. You need to comment sensibly or not at all.

like BID says- this is not even a race issue. I agree with their comment 110%. There is a right and wrong way to handle this and the officers completely mishandled this situation.

blackcat says...

You are totally missing the point and turning this into an issue of judgement and prejudice which is not the point most of the concerned commentators are making here. It also appears that you are adding more to the story than what the Tribune has reported. It seems you have a chip on your own shoulder when it comes to who should be judged , whether rich, poor, black, white etc.

Where in the article did you see the swiss bank manager quoted as saying anything about his wealth in relation to his arrest? No matter what race, religion, gender or nationality you are, human beings have rights. we are all human beings, or did you forget that?

Last time I checked, we all have 24 hours to produce a friggen driver's license in this country after an accident. You're telling me this man didn't have an hour to retrieve documents stating he was here legally? It's about how you treat people man, not all violence and scare tactics are necessary all of the time.

My point applies to all people, Bahamians and foreigners alike. Generally speaking, the police here speak to people in a nasty way, a lot of the times it is uncalled for. I had a policeman row me one time for winding down my window while they were conducting random road checks- for no reason in a very hostile way. Some of these officers need to learn how to talk to people in order to get what they want BEFORE moving to brute force.

What about her statements don't you agree with ? I think she's making a lot of sense. These young kids need direction and yes we need jobs and of course focus on education by far, but I don't think she's far off the mark in stating that social intervention is beyond necessary.

Whether you rent or not, the idea is that if you have kids, you need to be responsible in raising them. I see your point here but as thisisours says, your paycheck should not determine your moral character and whether or not you are suitable to have kids.

i would sooner support a law of 1-2 kids per family before I supported what you are proposing- just thinking realistically and how people would respond as I'm sure you are aware.

overall , my point is the moral fabric of society must change in order for us to become a society of solid values, of people who are honest and true and realize what it is to have kids. If we had educated people who's focus was different, we would not even need t o have this discussion about whether or not kids are having kids with no place to live. People need education in order to have the tools at hand to think critically and make their own decisions. Until that happens, whether people rent or have a house on the hill, we will have crime.

blackcat says...

Exactly why this crime problem cannot and will not be solved overnight. Enforce the laws already on the books, stop worrying about who's mother's cousin's brother's friend's you prosecuting and just do it--carry out the law.

Secondly, parents need to do more at home as you say. There is no love or support being shown to these kids. They grow up gimme-gimme as the only way they know. there is no emphasis on education, solid values or love. Christian nation - don't make me laugh.

these kids are coming out of schools barely able to read and write, it's no wonder they end up in trouble and without jobs. We have so much potential as a country but our youth is lost and this is where we need to focus. Change the family lifestyle for the better and you will stop crime.

It's about changing the psyche and lifestyle of Bahamians as a whole so that they don't begin a life of greed, materialism and entitlement from a young age. Weed out the corruption and place importance on education and sound morals and you will see a reduction in crime over time. This plan will help as a starting point to rehabilitate our youth now into seeing the light but it won't happen right away. It must be worked on continuously to see change. thas my 5 CENT. hhappy holidays !!

blackcat says...

@ Thisisours- I agree completely; the corruption needs to be weeded out first and foremost and I really like the adopt-a-family idea as well. It's a fresh look at the way the church can become involved in building inner -city communities.

@JohnDoes- No, these guys don't care about these things now, but at least these people are working on a formal solution, an actual plan unlike Mr. Christie's answer that is still coming "very soon". I applaud the group for taking the time to formulate such a plan. Not everyone will be able to be helped or changed but for the young people especially, the mentoring, anger management seminars, etc can be a good stepping stone for keeping kids out of trouble **before** they start down the wrong path.

I agree and just mentioned the importance of education in another post. A failing education system coupled with a complete lack of morals and decent values= disaster. We are reaping what we have sown in previous years. A greedy, all for me baby culture has been around for many years now and this is the fruit of our own labour.

These kids are shuffled through the education system, barely able to read and write by the time they leave school. They have no support from their parents, there is no one teaching them love and good, solid values. Kids need direction and when there is no emphasis on schooling (which can open minds and doors), and no love and support at home- what do we expect to happen?!

We must improve the education system and rule out corruption from the rich to the poor in order to save this country.

Unemployment is not directly linked to foreign jobs in town. The people need proper education first and foremost and Bahamian kids are not even getting the basics at primary or high school level. Class sizes are HUGE, parents have no interest in their kids' education and kids are graduating with barely the knowledge of reading and writing.
With these limited skills, we should be grateful for even entry level positions for our kids, much less big time jobs. Remember, big time jobs require big time work for the most part, and we can't skip the steps in between. The world is changing, most places require at least university degrees before employment.

The government likes to keep the public in the dark; keeping us ignorant prevents us from critically thinking on our own and making decisions based on reason instead of how much money or free food I could get from the government. We have to change that mentality before we can ever acquire the big time jobs. If the appropriate prerequisites are met, then yes, I agree, jobs should be offered to Bahamians. But, I do feel there are many of us out there who lack the basic skills and it starts at home and finishes in the classroom. With those two areas both on very shaky grounds, it's impossible to expect Bahamians to be in the forefront of high-ranking jobs at this day and time. Yes , I believe we can get there, but the moral fabric of our society must first be changed in order for us to get there.

The criminals ARE the police and government. Before anyone jumps on me about generalizing, let me say this: I know there are good cops, good civil servants and good-hearted moral citizens in this country, BUT there is also a culture of greed, tiefin, lying and whateva- i- could -get -i -will . That being said, there is no way the crime will ever be reduced if we continue with the high levels of corruption throughout this government and town. The innocent must suffer for the guilty- sad but true. These ministers cannot enforce the law because all the dirty laundry will be aired. Once your hands aren't clean and you start punishing others, your deeds come out. If the deeds are good, you have nothing to worry about but if your deeds are bad ones.............The town is small, everyone knows everyone and I could get off scott free because my brother's aunnie's cousin is so and so. Until we stop that foolishness, we will NEVER be rid of crime.
