....the tide is turning with the PM mantra being anti curruption. Until recently it would have been inheard for white collar crime to be brought out into the public and it only appeared that the poor criminal tiefong can of tuna and rice could be sent to jail. Now we have the COB accused of stealing some $700,000 and despite recommendation for no jail actually sentencdd to 15 yeats - works out to $46,666. per year (still waiting on the money laundering or staching crime money at different bank to come up) and if year good behavour taken off say 5 years , accused equivalent can be making more than Senators MPs lawyers, and many white an manual labour workers!!! We have also amazingly seen bank workers charged or court matters from almost all banks publictly named, govt workers charged etc- - almost totally unherd of a few years ago!!!....and even church pastors!!!
Somewhere the mathematical abilities should be raised in that the audit by Mr Bastian did reveal that the starting salary was supposed to be $18,800 but a nomber of seamen were only receiving $18,000. I believe yhiis was an audit some months ago where a query was raised on some company. Another tactic in securing our borders should be to also reconfigure captured vessels suitably and use them.
Many comments relate to the 'parents' ......what about the many single parent....female....teenager....unmarried....raising little Jean Paul along wid little Shin'e'qua??? The govt surely knows the costs so why do they not know what measures to take to correct .....like eduvational programs on family planning,, vasectomies, castration for serial sweethearters, and enlisting pastors like the one who nationally commented before ......
wrong choice of vessels for various types of operations....need the right tools for the job.... The appropriate vessel must be used, equipment, skilled manpower, shallow sandbanks moving, deep water, long range, short patrols, fuel, supplies prpvisioning, logistics, backups, spares, etc. The use of water jet propulsion is also a choice along with acquisition/use of other auxilliary suport drones, radio controlled craft, satellite, additional bases etc. Whatever did happen to those huge vessels that couldnt fit into the navy Coral Harbour base??...falls right back to the taxpayers to pay
@This is ours ....the free speech was not the issue...and that there were issues prior to the planned overseas national Commonwealth Heads visit. On this visit where our National leader who represents all ......persons should not try to discredit belittle or embarrass out leader and delegation or any of our nsational delegations when sent abroad in front of other national leaders. But as you say there is his DPM at home to deal with matters....and who in was the acting Prime Minister
Perhaps in the telling of the story how he got there we might have a better understanding of Mr. Maynard. His energies can certainly be channelled in the upliftment of less fortunate 45,000 poor living below poverty line.
Anchor babies. Noone can impart social skills and other skills if their parents themselves do not know it. The shortfalls just have to be made up by changes in the curriculum including teaching in morning in creole and Bahamian dialect in afternoon. Many Bahamians already speak creole just ealk down Bay St or stand in most govt lines.
@DDK ...good one....its not in the reporting side but the fact that we can have our leader and official delegation ..... do a important historic visit abroad and some can try to sabotage the mission.
There should be some standards or protocols or etiquette to follow that when the national leader is away on official state business that they should not be disrupted with threats or bushwacked so that the nations business overseas can be given highest priority for success. Besides with instant media other leaders would be negotiating with you and reading all the threats your people are saying. Deminishing the strengths of your sales pitch etc and also raising questions for the nation.
