"He was a striving and hard-working young man.”..... yeah right, striving young men, are on their jobs providing for themselves if they are single or their families if they are married.
@clamshell, everyday I wonder the same thing! When will we ever get it right. I am not a fan of the PLP administration past or present but my goodness, is this what we have resorted to...personal attacks?
Come on man, even if we disagree with the PLP's style of leadership, there is no need to personally attack people. We should work together to collectively solve our issues.
We have just turned 46 as a nation, why don't we stop setting ourselves back with nonsensical, trivial issues and focus on moving our country forward. Geez this is exhausting!
As much as I disliked reading what was said about the BTC employees, I am afraid, if I were honest, I would have to agree with Mr. Nair's statement about them. He is not telling us something that we don't know already. How many times have some of us said the same about Bahamian workers in general. We give lack luster performance and customer service, have negative, entitled attitudes and just expect everything to be handed to us on a platter. What makes matters worse are the union leaders who continue to advocate for such poor performance.
If you want to see what Mr. Nair is talking about, just take a look at what has taken place over the past few months in this country with workers. Everyone's going on strike but yet the service and performance sucks; Water and Sewage, hotel workers, nurses, doctors, and the list goes on!
Don't get mad at Mr. Nair, let's fix our performance and attitudes, we are not the only place where people can do business. I can't blame the Prime Minister for wanting to put his workers first, but he has to first make sure that his workers are up to international standards.
We have to stop taking tea breaks as soon as we get to work, stop going on 2 hour lunch breaks, stop calling out sick to travel to Miami, stop giving attitude when we are asked a question or two. Customer service and pride in our work are key to a successful business; whether it is a government owned one or a private sector one.
Let's take what Mr. Nair said about BTC workers and use it as a catalyst to improve our overall productivity!
Very insightful article again this week Mr. Malcolm Strachan, but to Bannister and Minnis' credit, every time they try to put BPL on some sort of footing, somehow there is some interference or set back. Have we forgotten those 2 fires a few months ago or the other acts of sabotage that have occurred? They are constantly addressing small issues and infighting that it makes it almost impossible to move forward.
You are correct, had this been anywhere in the developed world, they would have demanded Bannister and his entire BPL's leadership's resignation. However, in our case, make him resign and then what? Set us back another year? Bannister/Minnis has to just press on with the plans that they have in place for BPL. I am certain, that this electricity crisis has to be at the forefront of their minds. It's just become too extreme for them not to think about it or have a plan in place to fix it! And let us not forget, this has been a crisis for decades. Although, for the love of God, I am not sure why we have not invested in solar energy.
I am **cautiously** hopeful that with the Shell deal, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime, we have to let them get the temporary fix up and working. Growing pains is what I call it and by george we are still growing!
This is just ridiculous! Dr. Sands is correct, a setback to the system is a setback to all of us. What is wrong with our people? Why are we destroying ourselves? It's just inconceivable! As usual, the union jumps in to defend nonsense!

Another setback yet again! It's very unfortunate since it's only the Bahamian people that will suffer. Why do we continue to do this to ourselves.
