I still say as I have over and over again if you teach children how to speak correct English and teach them correct spelling they will do much better. I hear too many Bahamians say..."this is how we speak, it's Bahamian". All well and good but it won't get you that position you are looking for when you speak "Bahamian" at a job interview especially if it entails customer service. Reading is very important. Not knowing how can be very embarrassing. Math is also an important subject. If you can add, subtract, multiply and divide you can usually get by. Parents have to learn to teach their children the abc's and reading before they start school. It will certainly make a difference. Don't depend on the teachers doing it for you. The teachers need to be speaking correct English to the students also. You can't expect the students to do so if you have teachers teaching Bahamian dialect.
I am not surprised at all. I have seen too many errors in spelling in the newspapers, internet, etc., mispronounced words by politicians, TV newscasters and those in customer service positions. What does it take to have someone proofread before sending something out for the public to see??? Is it any wonder why children aren't learning to read, write and spell when you have adults who can't even assure something is right.
This is what you call making history??? Come on you can do better than that. What a shame. I guess you have nothing better or more constructive to talk about.
