When any consumer buys anything in the Bahamas he pays VAT whether he likes it or not. If
any businessperson is late by even 1 minute in his VAT filings and payment the fines keep rolling. Yet for the number houses politicians talk about "reaching out" and negotiating. Either all of us have to pay taxes or repeal the laws.

The politicians fine honest businesspersons even they are a minute late paying VAT. They don't issue the business licence unless every penny is being paid. They threaten even small businessperson with huge fines if they don't keep proper records. (God forbid they don't declare a penny less in sales,so they can keep hiring civil servants). Yet with the web shops they reach out to them and try to negotiate. Talking about double standards.

Mrs.Hanna and the PLP talk about transparency and accountability? Is this for real? Maybe she should explain how much her party received from the "number boys" as political donations Is this why they went against the will of the people in the gambling referendum? The PLP has a lot of "house cleaning" to do,and i am sorry i don't see this happening while the same people are at the helm.

PLP and corruption is one and the same. It's in their genes,so no matter how much window dressing is attempted it will be one and the same. Futhermore change is supposed to come with Brave and Freddie at the helm and Bradley and Perry in the background? Is this the joke of the year?

The IDB is more than happy to finance programs and projects they know fully well will not work. After all they will get paid back with interest. At the same time our politicians will borrow more and more just to show they care for the people. The real loser of course is the Bahamian citizen who will pay the bill.

like almost everything to which politicians are involved with we should be extremely skeptical. The millions of dollars wasted in BAMSI is a recent and painfull example. "Fish houses" have
been built in the past in some islands with government subsidies and we all know the end result.
I bet they will soon go back to IDB asking for more money to finish the project, and who knows they may have more industries to "revitilize" ,for which of course taxpayers will pay the bill.
Should we expect another VAT hike in the near future?

@clamshell : lol you are so right, they can't even deliver a letter on time (if it is delivered at all)
and yet they are talking about developing high tech industries.
