Interesting, none of the politicians found it proper to reduce their salaries even by a small percentage. I guess we should be thankful to them for borrowing more money, which will be paid by all Bahamians. Not to mention of course the huge public service sector that continues to get paid in full.
Just because they didn't prepare enough and have enough tests for massive testing the whole country(except politicians, consultants and civil servants) suffer. There was no proper planning from the beginning and continuous lockdown is the only way they know now. But why should worry, NIB has 1.7 billion in assets,an economic recovery committee and sub committes have been established,we have medical experts that are the envy of the region.
Try calling or email any government agency and by the time they even answer the phone or respond to the email you don't care anymore. On top of that a doctor has to be found, and who knows what else in order just to get the card. The most amazing fact is that the card does not even confirm positively that you are Covid 19 free, just low risk individual. By the time the politicians and "experts" figure out what they are doing Covid19 may not be your bigger problem anymore
Although it makes sense for travelling to the family islands having some restrictions at the beginning ,knowing the "efficiency" of government departments by the time someone gets his "travel card" will be after a vaccine has been developed and widely available.
I guess after giving some food vouchers to their members after all the millions that have been collected in union fees all these years, union leaders feel entitled to sit comfortably ,collect their full salaries and dictate to others how to run their businesses if and when they reopen. What a joke
Easier said than done. If US dollars do not start coming in again sooner rather than later, how you plan to purchase food, medicine, gasoline and other essentials? With Bahamian dollars?
Just because they can't control the 800-900 persons that are quarantined they choose to shut the whole country dowm, really killing the economy. Of course since now we have a panel of economic and health experts,I shouldn't worry. The only ones that are enjoying the extended lockdown are the politicians and the civil cervants. Keep the current course and the money will run out faster than you think. But then again why would they care
For years some people were bragging that the healthcare system was the best in the region ( i wonder with what region they were comparing it,maybe Haiti ). Will the lockdown be extended until the healthcare system gets its act together?
You should see what is going on to other departments as well. Even for import/export businesses that are supposed to be open, and at least keep a small part of the economy moving, try to find a government employee for the necessary paperwork. They are all , "working from home" and of course nothing can be done.
