As a political act to persuade the ignorant that the elected officials are doing a sterling job keeping prices down, then Price control is very effective. In creating several dozen jobs for unskilled government workers to remain the payroll with an unfunded pension, then price control works well. As an economic tool to keep grocery prices low it is an absolute failure. When the pre-UBP government introduced Price control in the 1950's it was applied to only a select few basic items; white flour, white rice, white sugar, and some other items. As the profit margin on these items was restricted at the wholesale and retail level so the wholesalers and retailers had no other choice but to raise the margin on their other non=price controlled items. The result? No overall lowering of the grocery cost unless you purchased only the very basic food items. Most all of which are now considered to be bad nutritionally leading to obesity. Sigh....
This must mean that all the other households and business accounts of BPL had to pay that much more to make up for the loss of money on the 63,000 households that benefitted. You cannot make money out of nothing.
And once again; too little, too late. Trump has imposed a horrible extra tariff on every movie filmed or produced outside of the USA. Still, well done for trying.
We are all duty bound to believe everything that prime minister fillup Davis says, just as we were duty bound to believe that shuffling old buffoon when he said that he would abide by the results of the referendum on whether the gambling boys should be legalized or not.....
Just so, all RTD state employees should be issued with scalpels, PPE, and given a crash course, pun intended, , in vivisection. also those convicted of rape should have a particular organ removed and stored for possible transplant later in case Lorena Babbitt ever visits the country.
Legislation could be passed that would mandate every insurance company to ask the insured operator of every vehicle if they would consent to be an organ donor in the event of being declared brain dead by a properly administered medical authority. As an incentive the government waives the 10% VAT payable on the premium. A note is made in the drivers license and the insurance papers which all drivers must carry with them, This would be particularly useful for the younger motor cycle riders who have good healthy organs but only suffer a little in the common-sense department of their brain. Remember that almost 100 people lose their lives each year in the Bahamas.
If I understand correctly the only reason that the budget projects a surplus is because the country is borrowing more money than it is spending. The country is just getting ever deeper into debt which cannot be repaid even during the lifetime of our children. To spin this as a great achievement clearly shows the degree of fiscal understanding to found in our country. sigh.....
Good news, now perhaps we will find out the name of the high ranking politician who was named by one of the defendants as being involved in the corruption. Wouldn't it be great if we could place a bet on which politician it is with one of the local gambling dens? Which party members would have the better odds?
