Atlantis and Bahmar are two of the largest employers in the country. The tens of thousands of visitors that come to stay in these hotels contribute a huge amount of not just taxes but foreign reserve capital. Both hotels have been offering musical entertainers from the world stage so that their guests and Bahamian residents alike can enjoy world class acts from such as Rod Stewart.
The Union and the government workers are actively trying to stop this. What a shame. What an unwarranted interference in how privately owned business enterprise seek to remain profitable enough to stay open and keep employing so many workers. Just sad.

This could be a really bad idea for the FNM. In order to survive and thrive any business, including power companies, need to make a profit so that they invest in new technology and retain good employees. When political decisions starve business enterprises of the profit they need then you end up with a corporation like BEC. Badly undercapitalized and sadly managed providing sub-par service to it's customers. Is this really what the FNM want for the residents of Grand Bahama?

Seems to be a whole lot of song and dance about not very much.

No real surprise here. This was a political appointee of a man with little to no experience in the field of management that he was appointed to. ZNS continues to a complete waste of our tax payers money. It is unnecessary and should be closed down, The millions of dollars saved each year by doing this can be used to give pay increases to the real necessary State Employed Workers such as the teachers and nurses.

There are poloicepersons on the force who have a propensity to discharge their police issued firearm at defenseless and chained family dogs. We also have policepersons on the force who have been found guilty of manslaughter of unarmed civilians. Hopefully these two categories of policepersons will be amongst the first to be sent to Haiti, making our country just that little safer for Bahamians.

If I am wrong then I will tender an apology to Miss Belinda Wilson; but I do not believe that she has ever been a teacher that taught an academic subject that a student could achieve a BGC or BGCSE. C an you get a grade A or B in BGC Netball? I do not think so and such being the case her criticism of Ministers of Education, some of whom were real educators, is a little precious, possibly verging towards the hypocritical. Nothing new then.

What a weird bunch of false logic strung together in an apparent attempt to excuse the inexcusable.

We live in a time when hyperbole is the normal way to express your point of view; while not disputing Mr. Bowe's assertions with regards to unintended consequences of government imposed regulations on the Private Banking sector it should be noted that in a pure communist state all banks are owned by the State and there is no Private Banking sector. I do not think anyone is advocating this.

The writer seems to not understand that "he who pays the piper, calls the tune.". The IMF and the other global lending institutions are funded by the wealthy developed countries. Why would they put any one but one of their own in charge of the institution that they have developed. When countries who have have need to borrow money, either through a natural disaster, hurricane, or simply mismanagement of that county's economy, then they should expect to abide by the requisite criteria. If you or I approach a bank to obtain a mortgage to buy a house we do not tell the bank the terms of the loan but rather accept the terms offered or walk away. Our choice.
