Marked safe from reading any of Mr. O. Bodie's sycophantic letters for four years now. This man should get a job, although perhaps not as an attorney. LOL....
Fernander the cop, says promises have been kept, Families of the murdered left to only wail and wept, Of one thing we all can be sure, A retired police commissioner will never be poor. And if a promised report is never actually made, The collective public memory can only slowly fade. And a diplomatic appointment will show that all is right, More especially in a country where the peeps be mostly lilac…. The court of St. James comes to mind. Sigh.
If your figure of 134 is correct then gives a rate of just over 38 per 100,000 population. This would make us the 9th most murderous country in the world just after Haiti, if using the Bah 2024 figure with statistics for 2023from other countries.
And what is interesting, Bidrie, is the more religious a country is that; the higher the murder rate is. Conversely those countries with very low rates of church attendance also have the lowest rates of murder. Why? Possible to do with the ability of women to control their bodies, or not as the case may be.
The average rate of murder per 100,000 population is 6.3. Last year the rate in our country was 30 per 100,000; which is amongst the highest of any country. The Bahamas also has one of the highest number of police officers per capita of any country in the world. Hiring more police or creating yet more expensive deputy police commissioners is probably not the answer to the crisis that we are suffering. As others have pointed the broken justice system is probably part of the problem. Bermuda shares some common colonial history with the Bahamas; the murder rate there is a fraction of ours; what are they doing that we could emulate?
So who do we believe; one one side is doctor's report, the drug test result, the testimony of the Canadian visitor, and on the other side, there is......well, nothing actually. Perhaps a report of an internal police investigation may be ready in two or three years.
