You are right. Bold they are. They are not every trying to hide it. More's the pity that we have to endure this for another 4+ years. Think we will actually have a country left?
I very much enjoy reading your articles Ms. Turner. Continue the good work. You give your readers much food for thought and frankly, your thesis statement, "... the crime we hate will continue, because the crimes we love will continue" pretty much sums up the whole matter.
Fox Hill would know, aye? By all accounts, he spends his allowance (inter alia) to see other Parliaments. Nevertheless, the money can be used for other things: police force, supreme courts, etc. This Government is way off helping the people... it appears to be more about helping themselves.
The Government can amend the Gaming and Lotteries Act to put a final stop to ALL gambling so that there would be no question - no loopholes. That was the solution to our voting NO. In my mind they are without excuse. The court action is a co-op not to do anything and let the matter be swept under the carpet and drag on for a few more years (as most court actions do) despite the majority of Bahamian people who voted clearing voting NO! I
I fully agree with this article. Every MP on the PLP side seems to have gotten a job outside of their MP status including the MP for North Abaco whom the PM created a new position for. This Government has not exercised any fiscal restraint since day one and the saga continues with no end in sight. What makes it worse is no matter how much the Opposition and others complain, there is no sign of them letting up. I guess they know they are "in" and nobody can do anything about it. Moody's threatened downgrade obviously does not move them. I wonder if we will have a country at the end of their term.
If the PM is successful in doing this, my faith in him will be restored but he has to get it together. I am just saddened that this Government just missed a wonderful opportunity to establish a National Lottery because it seemed that all the focus was on getting the web shops regularised and it was obvious (in my opinion) that the lottery was just a second thought with no concrete plan in place to establish it. What a pity. I for one, however, will not count this Government out. We need to give them a chance to rectify this and not be so harsh. All leaders make mistakes and I believe Mr. Christie meant well. Personally, I am still rooting for him and his team. This whole exercise must be very sobering.
This whole process was flawed from the beginning with the PM putting his foot in his mouth every time he spoke. I for one am very glad the yes vote DID NOT go through. It's a wake up call to this Government. You wanted our opinion and you got it. The answer is NO! Now close the number houses down!
