I think the problem with the children situation started when we relaxed the requirements and started letting them in schools free. To my knowledge, back in Roker's day, that didn't happen.

Now citizenship is for sale. Governments frustrate the process, then wait until election time to start handing them out like cookies in exchange for votes. Now you gat a bunch of ungratefuls who interpret "right to apply" as 'automatic right reside and right to citizenship.

The problem was never Roker, it's the corrupt system that continues to reward the illegals and their children with permits and citizenship.

Lord one woman show up from the UN and made a statement on a subject nowhere on the burner and the whole country up in arms.

If anyone is paying attention they'll note that Dr. Minnis is not giving any statements on the subject and his AG, Carl Bethel said they don't plan to pass any laws with regard to this anytime soon. Both "Rolle" and "Johnson" (cabinet ministers) spoke from personal opinion (which they have every right to do). They did not speak on behalf of the Government and Rolle did not speak on behalf of Social Services or for women's rights, so we are beating up our gums in vain.

Besides Rolle has said she supports Minnis's wife getting an "office" which effectively means, Minnis's wife should be the one speaking out on this issue. Here's your moment in the sunshine darling! But I guess she needs the "office" first.

Frankly I'm with the AG on this one. If its not on the table, its a non-issue.

What kind of nonsense is this? "If you are here illegally get out OR apply through the proper legal channel to be matriculated? "

There should not be an OR after the word illegal. If you are here illegally how can you apply when the law requires that to be matriculated (i.e. for a job) you have to apply while outside of the country.

He's already back-pedaling.

I am the eternal pessimist on all things immigration. After 50 plus years of being a Bahamian I guess I have every right to be.

Successive Governments have come and gone and the status quo remains the same. nothing changes. No matter the outcry, no matter the need, NOBODY will deal. So I predict that come December 31st, nothing will change.

i'm sure as the day approaches the pundits will chime in. Social media will be flooded with calls for illegals to "carry their arse". The proponents for the illegals will be right there answering, "Yinna might as well get used to it. We ain't going nowhere."

Then the riff raff will die down and we will just continue to regularize them as we always have and award their children with the Bahamian citizenship they so desperately crave. We'll continue to create more "Louby Georges" and "Frankie Campbells". Hell. We'll probably even get some "Fred Smiths" out of this batch. Who knows. And then in few short years the Bahamas will be officially "Haitianized".

If anything else happens outside of what I described, i will be shocked!

Dr. Minnis please shock me!

I agree. It's not legal. If the Bahamas signed on to any Human Rights conventions (and I suspect we have) we have agreed that all persons on our soil (whether legal or illegal) have the right to be read their rights immediately upon being arrested, the right to attorney and the right to a fair trial for any crime they are accused of committing (among other things). I suspect, that these rights have been overlooked because of the large number of undocumented immigrants that are entering our country illegally. To haul them before a court and give them "due process" would be a nightmare just because of the sheer numbers and baring in mind the current backlog of cases our courts currently have.

Perhaps they should just create an immigration court/tribunal to deal specifically with immigration matters.

If Freddy is successful in any of his current cases for illegal deportation, it will force us to deal with these matters the proper way.

Sheep, this is what my above comment says. He clearly never applied but is holding the (questionable) birth certificate up as like a passport that makes him Bahamian and gives him a right not to be deported.
