... it is expected that we will have cases, but their approach (forcing people into enclosed spaces through panic) combined with inadequate testing and a lack of police presence to enforce rules is making it worse than it has to be! Sad part is they will blame the people they are causing to panic, but not themselves for creating it!
@ ThisIsOurs... herd immunity can only develop by vaccination (which does not exist here) or by allowing an infection to run its course through a population. That provides immunity for a second wave of infections, it does not work in the first wave of infection
@happyfly... that might be the plan. If it is then it is quite unethical, but if everyone gets infected quickly then the 80% who will develop immunity will do so within the next few weeks without any ill effects. Of the 20% who develop moderate to severe symptoms about 5% may not make it, but that will also take place in the next few weeks allowing this situation to pass. But it will provide herd immunity if there is a second wave of this virus at any point in the future.
I did find it hard to believe people in the cabinet office could be so stupid as to think this abrupt shutdown was a workable idea!
China always gives with a motive and I would like to know what they are getting in return? Once this covid thing settles down I guess we will find out exactly what they may have gotten and why we on lockdown for five days at a time!
It would be nice if this country could get another private hospital that provides decent medical care while not having price gouging as its modus operandi!
This means going forward that both businesses and individuals must have an emergency hardship fund set aside to ensure they can survive at least 3 months in case something like this happens again. Both people and businesses have to get out of the living by the seat of your pants mentality!
Multiple untrue assertions were made in this article. I will only deal with two. First of which was that those who were infected and died were not listening to the advice given by public health. That is virtually impossible to ascertain, since they were all most likely infected BEFORE any guidance was given at all!
Secondly the global mortality rate based on Johns Hopkins coronavirus dashboard put mortality at around 5%, not 19-21%!
… if a doctor handled a medical problem for me the way Sands and Minnis handled this medical problem, I would have sued for negligence! The only advice they have given that makes any sense is to self distance and wear masks in public places! They probably only got that right because that's what public health experts around the world agree on!
@DDK... no, we need restricted movement and self distancing, but not in the doses Minnis is giving it. He should have given people time to prepare without creating panic and shut down everything for 30 days leaving grocery stores open with police presence to ensure rules were being followed. That would have been the cure. This drip, drip approach will accomplish nothing because if someone picked up this virus in a grocery store today, it can be in incubation for up to nine days or so while they spread it without having any symptoms. And those with symptoms can have them for 2 weeks or more. The approach he is taking makes no sense!
