… no, we need a shut down, but not in small doses like this. If we had shut this country down properly one month ago, there would be virtually no new cases. That's a fact!
Closing down everything for two days will accomplish nothing. They have no sustained strategy and seem clueless if they can't mimic what America is doing.
-All wash houses must be closed indefinitely. People can wash at home, one piece at a time if need be!
-Police must be stationed at all grocery stores and banks and couples and families in stores should be cited.
-All cars with more than two persons in it should be stopped by police!
-No person who is coughing or sneezing should be in a public space.
-Medical clinics must remain open as different kinds of emergencies can arise, but should turn away all walk in patients who do not absolutely need to see a doctor at this time. All patients should call the clinic first so an over the phone assessment can be made to determine if they need to be seen urgently.
Lastly, the government has to be honest. They are not testing people who have complaints and are telling everybody who calls the hotline to self-isolate without testing for the virus. This is madness and will only prolong the economic recovery and encourage the spread of this virus!
People must remember that the virus jumps from person to person. If we severely restrict movement of people then you automatically reduce spread of the virus.
@moncurcool... while simultaneously, countries have an obligation to their citizens. All passengers should be repatriated to their countries while the ship and crew remain offshore in Bahamian waters. That is the reasonable compromise!

… what countries have failed to do is shut down completely because of the potential economic fallout. If they do that for several weeks and have mandatory self isolation this virus would burn out in about 3 weeks because it cannot survive without jumping from host to host. If a decision to do that happens within the next few weeks both in the US, UK and here, we could be back in business in about 6 weeks. If not then infections will continue to spread impeding economic recovery and it will become a lot more complicated!

But seriously, there are many Bahamians who sacrifice, try to make smart choices to limit the hardship that poor decisions can bring and have been proactive in building their lives. Being successful in this country by being honest, hardworking and planning for the future is not easy, and I refuse to put my hand out if I have not done everything in my power to change my situation first! When those I am responsible for have a need their only duty is to come to me first. As the man of the house it is MY duty to take care of my responsibilities. That's why I don't believe in having 'outside' children and sweetheartin'. I believe that should go for all of us!
Many Bahamians have shown themselves to be complete idiots who think they are on holiday, so obviously the rates of infection and subsequent deaths must increase. I stood on a line for the grocery store today and observed people standing next to each other as though they were at a social event with barely any space between them. There were also couples and parents with two or more grown children on the lines and shopping in the store, in spite of the PMs declaration that there be ONE designated shopper per house. With this kind of idiocy, things will have to get much worse before it gets better. It is now clear that we, the Bahamian people are our own worse enemy!
