The mentality that the government is "supposed" to take care of people is patently wrong! The governments job is to create opportunities that citizens are responsible for taking advantage of for their own betterment. Nothing politicians like more than people having to come to them for scraps so they can maintain power through learned helplessness!

We do need a social welfare net for those who fall through the cracks, but something is wrong is everybody falls through the cracks!

...people have been complaining about calling the COVID hotline complaining of symptoms and are simply being told to self isolate. Doctors can't do testing for this virus so their hands are tied. I know someone personally who was sent by a Dr to the ER and they were sent home without testing to self isolate.

@ Eve... if you have an Amazon Prime account you can purchase beer or wine through Whole Foods, have it delivered to a local couriers US address and have it brought in! Just confirm that the courier is willing to ship alcohol!

In what universe is doing something that has been shown not to work ever a good idea!

- Allow people to go to the stores when they need to ,
- Increase police presence in and out of stores to ensure that only one person is shopping at a time and social distancing is being enforced, (I saw a family of three adults in a store today)

- Allow the elderly and essential workers to enter stores at any time once they approach the door with an ID,

- Encourage local stores to get into online deliveries, since deliveries can be make at the door with no need for person to person contact (make it easy for them to do so)
- Shut down all laundromats (ASAP)- separate issue

On Shopping schedule suspended for one week

*Dr Minnis appealed – in fact, he said it was a “strong appeal” – to doctors in private practice to help in the fight against COVID-19 “during this hour of great need”.*

That's funny because during this last lockdown, all private medical facilities were closed during the lockdown (if I am not mistaken). How could he want them to help in the "fight" but not allow them to work?

Maybe we should all talk to doctors we know and find out if any of them have confidence in the way Minnis and team are handling this situation! I know what the people I have spoken to have said!

That one is for all the never Trumpers!

… actually the government is forcing Bahamians not to comply by their idiotic and spontaneous pronouncements! Can you imagine grocery stores on Tuesday morning for instance!!

joeblow says...

Of course governments should try to help out its citizens in these kind of situations, but they cannot spend the taxpayers money as though it is their own. Will the beneficiaries of the funds have to pay it back, and what are the details of that?

@CatIslandBoy... when a disease is spread by person to person contact you are not trying to save lives when you make a decision that causes panic and drives people out of their safe homes to grocery stores on long lines where they become exposed to infection. Can you not see that?
