"Dr. Brennen said officials are still tracing her contacts and have not encountered any contacts who are showing symptoms of the disease."
It conveniently does not say that these people were tested, even though we know the asymptomatic infected person can still spread the disease!! It seems idiotic to trace contacts and not test to confirm whether or not they are infected purely to keep apparent cases artificially low. This unethical and deceitful behavior by our public officials is frightening and dangerous!
@ThisIsOurs... a lifetime of poor choices will make the effects of these events unnecessarily more difficult for many people! I people come out of this a little wiser!
Maybe its time to reconsider the pillars of the Bahamian economy, but that would require visionary leadership, which is sorely lacking in this country!. One adverse event and everything shuts down? And just to think, hurricane season is right around the corner!
It is sad that even though this virus has been publicized since December 2019, those in this country who are responsible for plotting the course for an appropriate response seem to still be making things up on the fly! They seem oblivious about the process of planning for worse case scenarios and implementing a plan. We need a little bit more than just "stay at home". God knows this country deserves better!
It about to get rough for everyone, not just taxi drivers. No need to complain, everyone just has to ride this one out! This shows the importance of saving and not living paycheck to paycheck!
It was reported that the infected woman has not traveled recently, which can only mean that she had contact with someone who is moving around the country, quite possibly without any symptoms. This also means that within the next week we can expect the numbers to increase exponentially as that person continues to infect others and so on. I don't have a lot of faith in our government acting in the best interest of the people!
Those who conspired to withhold information from the public WHILE allowing flights and cruise ships from areas known to have Covid 19 into the country, WHILE not aggressively testing using the kits they had weeks ago, have endangered the lives of many Bahamians and put those working in the healthcare and tourism sectors at greater risk!
They should all be fired, starting with the Minister of Health!

This virus is different from other viruses that cause colds and flus because it can be spread without a person having any symptoms. In fact, many people many have no fevers at all, some people simply feel tired. This is complicated by the fact that this virus is present DURING a flu season, making it more difficult to determine if those who have symptoms have it because of usual viruses or COVID 19.
It is also believed the virus can be spread by contact since it has been found to live up to 9 days on surfaces, hence the suggestion of frequent hand washing and cleaning surfaces with a suitable disinfectant.
At the end of the day eat properly (which is something most Bahamians do not do), avoid public places if possible, wash hands often after contact with others, don't go to visit elderly relatives if you don't feel well and avoid touching the face or eyes with unwashed hands!
If all else fails and symptoms worsen, call an ambulance. Don't just go to the emergency room because you might pick up something you do not have!
