Only 1000 signatures? You mean only 1 out of 250 people will be affected? The number is too low. If they can't get 5 times that many (and exclude people with IP addresses outside the Bahamas) - then the politicians should pay it no attention.
And the concentration of this article on Abaco is surely a waste of time. Govt doesn't care about Abaco even though it gets back only 8% of what it put into the Treasury (ie. 92% of its taxes go to other islands).
Abaco is not really a part of the Bahamas anyway, it has been taken over by foreigners and operates under its own laws.
FNM's should be glad that Minnis is different from Ingraham. Perhaps because of this they will be able to regain the leadership. If they want someone the same as before, then they will lose the same as before.
Hoping that Minnis can teach his party the meaning of democracy - which does not exist at all within the party structure from Central Committee down to the constituency officers and members. The Party Constitution has not been updated to reflect votes from the last 3 conventions. Nobody (ordinary citizens that is) is allowed to know the rules of the Party - how you can get elected to positions, who is in charge of who - etc. This was a tool of the old Admin to ensure that only Ingraham had authority.
People are not going to join a Party that does not include them in an instrumental and fair way.
Good luck to Dr. Minnis with the enormous task before him - IF his goal is to improve the Bahamas, not just himself. Good luck.
Sorry buddy, you have majority rule now - you can't use that old white argument anymore. Talk to the majority rulers about your concerns. Even better - the next time you get a chance to vote (the Queen only gave you the right to vote every 5 years) - vote for a Party that has not been in power any time in the past 40 years. The alternative is to keep talking and making noise, meanwhile some immigrants are working to use majority rule to their advantage when they soon become the majority.
Keep the water rationing until the problem is fixed. Unless people are affected - nothing will happen. It will be an invisible problem that affect no one.
What is the point of this report? It contains all the information that we already know. Maybe we can pay for a produce one of these report every week, and publish it, and force the newspapers to publish it, and put it in the Gazzette, and maybe put up billboards with the information, and maybe put it on the radio and the govt t.v. station/s - and maybe force the pastors in churches to recite the several points of fact each Sunday before/after service.
what good would that do?
Now that the so-called "report" has been completed, what are we going to do?
Maps need to be made showing the location (and borderline) of every single shanty town - and then 100% strict enforcement (by way of bulldozer) needs to be implemented to prevent these towns from getting even one inch larger in size - or for even a single additional town to spring up. Any new one, or any growth whatsoever must be met with police and bulldozer.
Contain the problem first - then months later, start to decide if anything can be done about it. Nothing likely can be done - but containment is certainly a practical option.
You are absolutely correct. Duty on diapers and baby food remain at zero % encouraging more "belly swell" everywhere you turn. Combined with a lack of education on the matter, and unmeasurable interference from the churches in this matter - we are like the Titanic on our way to meet an iceberg.
Previous comment has it right. It was Laing and his worshippers that signed us up internationally to all of these foolish treaties and agreements - saying that it was for our benefit due to trade.
What trade? What the heck do we export or sell outside the Bahamas? A few crawfish and some unprocessed salt. Big deal. The cost to Bahamians of these crazy agreements will be a hundred times what it would have cost the government to just pay the crawfish and salt people their normal annual incomes directly from the Treasury and tell them to just stay home and do nothing and sell nothing. Much cheaper for us.
All sorts of duties and fees keep getting raised - but still no movement on the pampers and baby food duties - which remain at zero. Encouraging people to have more and more children to grow up and apply for fewer and fewer jobs. Brilliant.
After a year in office, it's about time he had a look at one of the institutions under his portfolio.
BUT nobody needs to worry. Nothing will get done - because of course it will be a scheduled visit - with at least 3 days notice - and everything will be tidied up - all the of zippers will be zipped up, and the place will even smell nice.
Nothing to see here folks - go on your way - everything is wonderful. Thanks for stopping by.

But just look at all the dozens and dozens of churches that have been built in this country since 2000? Wow !!! We've been church building man !
People should just go to church, pay the pastor, eat their rice, and shut up. That's the Bahamas.

Stop complaining. The people love this. 92% of Bahamian voters chose either FNM or PLP. Only 8% voted otherwise.
Give us the same old, same old ????????????/ Oh yeah, we love it. We voted for it. And 4 years from now, we'll vote for MORE from the FNM (again).
