Totally agree that banning Export will be a great first step and will help the conch populations grow. Legally exporting 2 million conch a year is without a doubt unsustainable. God only knows how much is exported illegally, probably way more than 2 million.
Sometimes you have to take drastic measures to achieve the greater good, there will be a huge backlash to banning exports from the people who are making a killing harvesting them, but the conch and Bahamians will ultimately benefit, & for decades, not just a few more years. Lets not kill the goose.
Oban in Grand Bahamas is scary, but what is really Terrifying is the LNG dock at Clifton!? Mindbogglingly scary to think a bunch of Bahamian engineers could be in charge of the safety and maintenance, when LNG plants have breaches in first-world countries!? LNG is of one of the most volatile gases on the planet, a ship full of LNG gas could easily blow up the whole island.
People at living at Albany, Lyford Cay and Old Fort have put up with the Bunker C smoke /pollution from Clifton power station for decades, but this is a whole other ballgame when it comes to risk, just google "LNG explosions around the world"
Why can't we follow what has worked in the Cayman Islands? The SUN shines down on us for FREE it is not toxic or explosive.
Disney's 'investment' of $400M is in Themselves, & not the Bahamas, it baffles me that people don't realize this!
All the money will be spent on- the ships jetty/pier & infrastructure, tacky Disney themed bars and restaurants, back-of-house utility buildings, sewerage & power etc. and accommodations for the under 30 year old foreign staff.
Their guests will pay by credit card to entities in the USA, as its all inclusive on most of these ships, No money will touch the Bahamas.
PLUS, We already know all this! We have a long history of other Cruise Sip abortions of land in the Bahamas. we see that they do Nothing for the economy but hurt it. This is the definition of madness.
Idiots we elected have sold our soul for another nation to benefit, and forevermore.
Just think about the 'old money' people (individuals with funding comparable to Disney) sitting & waiting to see behind the scenes in One Eleuthera partners. You Have No Idea!
We all can do something to help stop to global warming. It is mostly due to the people in power, those who make bad calls on the environment, people like Minnis-Mouse and that douch-bag Trump, those with the power and knowledge of the consequences of their actions, they will be the ones cursed long after their death.
Soon enough Bahamians will be refugees, trying to get into the mountains in Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica. That's if humans are lucky enough to survive their idiotic choices.
A lot of what the Post Office does can be put online, same goes for many Government 'managed' entities. Sad state of affairs all-around .
I'm OK with the T.C.Mall being utilized. Malls are going by the wayside, so they might as well use it, its central, has parking, don't need to build much, so it save's the planet and all that.
Main issue is the Bahamas needs better leadership, we need a complete overhaul of the mindset. The FNM is proving to be no better than the last lot of cronies.
