Especially a union who didn't even manage to negotiate a new collective agreement. The union didn't register their 2003 agreement (yes 12 years ago) therefore making it void. Unions are suppose to work for their members. I'm not sure what this one even does.
*“They are in our country as guests,” Mr Woods said, “if they can’t follow the law then they need to leave, for these people to be speaking out against the government in the way they are doing.”*
Firstly, if you take their money, they are no longer just a guest. They've paid to play. And are we really going to start censoring what people say about the government? This is not a dictatorship! People should not fear the government, the government should fear the people.
The reason the union sees this as an all out war is that they are going to have a pretty hard time collecting their dues if they aren't deducted off their payroll and without that the union is sunk. I'm sure there are enough employees who would just rather keep their fees and be done with this union as they don't seem to have done a lot of good lately, losing just about every battle they start.
For the first time, someone who actually has the interest of the Bahamian people in mind is taking a look at the going ons of our government and it does not look good. To many years of no oversight has left us with bad policies and procedures that are not even being followed. Forget the fact that this leaves a lot of room for embezzlement and shady deals, just having such bad financial housekeeping is costing the citizens hundreds of millions of dollars each and every year.
Terrance Bastian and his team need to be given more support by the people. They are doing what needs to be done to make our government more efficient and save us money.
PC doesn't care who he's gotten us in bed with. All he cares about is how much kickback he's getting. Pindling didn't care when he was getting in bed with the drug runners and look at who Christie learned from.
There was financing set up to pay the employees through the Chapter 11 filing, but instead the government blocked that so that they could use the employees as their own pawns.
They should not be paying anyone's salaries. What a waste of our money.
If the government had not let their big feelings get in the way, this would be half way through Chapter 11, work would be happening on the hotel to finish it and the creditors would be on their way to getting paid. Instead, to protect their ego's and their backroom dealings, the government has put up every road block they could and now there is no end in sight.
