Leave the west end of PI as it is!

Think what people want to see when they enter Nassau.

Developers see abeutiful place and get attracted to it- then it seems they just screw it up.

idiots - what about the real cost associated with international perception on the matter?

yep - da boys payment finally reach the gov’s back pocket swiss/ panama/numbers account!

how do we know - its just an educated observation...history repeating itself. WOW no party or group is immune.

shut down the web shops in accordance with the results of the referendum, and start a national lottery!!!! imagine the funds that will end up in the treasury!

professionalbahamian says...

Absolute Bull!!!!! More taxes without anything to show for it!

No real government accountability for the public taxes in the consolidated fund to date and yet they believe they have a right to add more taxation? Really?!!!

It's proving absolutely nuts to try to stay in business and be competitive here- start laying employees off right?

Yep, someone received some lobbying $$$!!!

A national lottery would be a good solution for the treasury (if corruption wasn't a ting) since referendums on the subject are ignored! Is ignoring the referendum result even legal?

What garbage!

professionalbahamian says...

What on earth do you think this means for the small business person wanting to start a business: "...we will defer these and other planned changes to the reporting regime until such is considered in the broader tax reform effort.."

What this means is the government is still increasing TAXES while wasting money without accountability and running a recurring operational deficit! Who would start or expand a private business with an ever changing playing field?!
Government should forget about trying to run the country businesses and let private industry drive the economy -

Maybe this "free movement" government should bring in some heavy hitting consultants to fix the country. Where are the tourists? Why is it so hard for government to get smaller and stop spending more than they make?

Simple- some of the bigger companies need to band together and take the government to court for invasion of privacy! Imagine how confidential that information will be sitting on a desk in the tax office! Absolute crap! Improve laws to go after those who have questionable declarations. A simple system of investigation, requests for clarification, fines, etc.
I know people who won't be opening offices here as a result and others that will close - This is Not a police state people!

If the government would focus on the ease of doing business for Bahamian entrepreneurs they would be pleasantly surprised at the results!

If Government wants 12 or 20 percent VAT on everything including rent and FOOD! then they must adhere to the competition laws on the books while figuring out a way to lower interest rates on business loans and the cost of doing business.
It might be an idea to have a functioning post office too....?!

Maybe even clean up Bay Street and add residential units there! Bay Street is a strong reflection of the condition of the whole country! Garbage, inability to afford property maintenance, loiterers, completely unsightly buildings beyond a certain point eastbound. Grand Bahama is not the solution , a modernized Nassau is. Maybe even using US dollars exclusively, or are we too proud.

What are you waiting for folks who can change things?!

What about the work permits granted to Dominicans - a recent article by this paper I believe said around 500 are issued. Is this for fisherman on Bahamians vessels? If so why?

Thank you Mr. Carson!

We can only hope our Government will listen - The more they borrow the more desperate they become for large misplaced foreign investment projects.

The real genius would be someone who could figure out a way out of the viscous cycle: (overspend, borrow, overspend, borrow...bend the standards, forget vision, and allow for whatever investment walks through the door?)

What the...?
Looks like crookedness and desperation all around!
Should we thank the former board for saving us $1.2m from going who knows where or just freak out while we sit during power outages in the heat and sweat as bull crap goes on and higher ups fly to china and elsewhere (for payoffs?/ kickbacks?).

It's Simple, be accountable damn it, and the truth will set you free!

Who is supposed to hold ALL these persons accountable? Get to work please!

COME ON!!
