If the government would focus on the ease of doing business for Bahamian entrepreneurs they would be pleasantly surprised at the results!

If Government wants 12 or 20 percent VAT on everything including rent and FOOD! then they must adhere to the competition laws on the books while figuring out a way to lower interest rates on business loans and the cost of doing business.
It might be an idea to have a functioning post office too....?!

Maybe even clean up Bay Street and add residential units there! Bay Street is a strong reflection of the condition of the whole country! Garbage, inability to afford property maintenance, loiterers, completely unsightly buildings beyond a certain point eastbound. Grand Bahama is not the solution , a modernized Nassau is. Maybe even using US dollars exclusively, or are we too proud.

What are you waiting for folks who can change things?!

What about the work permits granted to Dominicans - a recent article by this paper I believe said around 500 are issued. Is this for fisherman on Bahamians vessels? If so why?

Thank you Mr. Carson!

We can only hope our Government will listen - The more they borrow the more desperate they become for large misplaced foreign investment projects.

The real genius would be someone who could figure out a way out of the viscous cycle: (overspend, borrow, overspend, borrow...bend the standards, forget vision, and allow for whatever investment walks through the door?)

What the...?
Looks like crookedness and desperation all around!
Should we thank the former board for saving us $1.2m from going who knows where or just freak out while we sit during power outages in the heat and sweat as bull crap goes on and higher ups fly to china and elsewhere (for payoffs?/ kickbacks?).

It's Simple, be accountable damn it, and the truth will set you free!

Who is supposed to hold ALL these persons accountable? Get to work please!

COME ON!!

No licensing for boat or captain which means no insurance or inspection done ( which costs $50, not $20 and applies to everything that floats) ....

Makes sense BUT - taxation without government accountability is a waste of time. Public Private Partnerships or separating out the specific tax for the specific purpose might work.

Well what a disconnected approach.

The way forward was Introduce VAT, reduce Government size!, reduce government employment over a reasonable period!, and reduce government spending!, and eliminate import duties to match VAT revenues.
Leadership needs to be honest with themselves - they have no intention of reducing the size of government or eliminating import duties- so quality of life suffers and private sector will shrink. Which idiot would believe that eliminating VAT on a $100 or less power bill wis going to help - what an insult.
What are revenues relating to VAT collected on food? Why would Government want to control what we eat?! - Eliminate VAT on all food! Tax alcohol and tobacco! Tax Gambling and make a national lottery! Remove VAT from health and life insurance and allow people to keep their policies! Remove VAT from commercial rents! Separate tax revenues to deal with relevant shortfalls - (gas tax for road repair, utility VAT for distribution repair etc, garbage fines! for garbage collection on the sides of the roads etc!)

Stop thinking of capital spending at all until things are in order!

If you want more VAT you have to do your part first!
Come on!

How about the government ONLY reduce taxes on healthier items and NOT remove anything from the age old bread basket list.
If more taxes designed to promote healthy living is what they want then add further taxes to alcohol and cigarettes (leave freedom of choice with the individual!).

Fasdeposit plus online banking saves huge amounts of time standing in line!
