Government blindly increasing taxes again- wow what a surprise - the most inefficient business in the country with no separation of funds or positive balance sheet continues to find way to raise taxes without accountability. How about all funds collected in this way go towards repairing and maintaining navigation aids and not have the funds just disappear into the consolidated fund. Even assigning the funds and **only** those types of funds collected, to the Ministry of Transport would make more sense.
No one ever seems to calculate the actual $ losses to the economy due to lack of infrastructure. I hear the Exumas has worse cell service now too. One missed call for a tourism related activity for example could mean a loss of thousands of dollars...That said, it would really be productive if every outisland had a measure of what taxes they pay in as a total amount - why can't this be quantified every six months. Every island could be stewards of most of their tax dollars and thus benefit, borrow, expand, improve, and know where they are heading.
wow! We would love to believe this but what BS. This is the icing on the cake of absolute government failure- borrow until you can't pay it back and then gamble that opening the borders will help get the books in the black.
Please be sure to allow Walmart, West Marine, Target, Hobby Lobby, and Home Depot to open stores here while you are at it (why not)! Hey and why not make sure every Foreign company sending workers here pays VAT, biz licensing fees, NIB, and import duties on everything to do with the running of their business!
Well probably struggling to pay business license fees too - government should address that.
The bottom line is government needs to get smaller so they don't need more revenue and hey - try reducing duties across the board by 80% (even if only for 6 months ) and see if things don't improve. Duties are a regressive form of taxation- stifling people's motivation to maintain their properties or create anything.
idiots - what about the real cost associated with international perception on the matter?
yep - da boys payment finally reach the gov’s back pocket swiss/ panama/numbers account!
how do we know - its just an educated observation...history repeating itself. WOW no party or group is immune.
shut down the web shops in accordance with the results of the referendum, and start a national lottery!!!! imagine the funds that will end up in the treasury!
Absolute Bull!!!!! More taxes without anything to show for it!
No real government accountability for the public taxes in the consolidated fund to date and yet they believe they have a right to add more taxation? Really?!!!
It's proving absolutely nuts to try to stay in business and be competitive here- start laying employees off right?
A national lottery would be a good solution for the treasury (if corruption wasn't a ting) since referendums on the subject are ignored! Is ignoring the referendum result even legal?
What on earth do you think this means for the small business person wanting to start a business: "...we will defer these and other planned changes to the reporting regime until such is considered in the broader tax reform effort.."
What this means is the government is still increasing TAXES while wasting money without accountability and running a recurring operational deficit! Who would start or expand a private business with an ever changing playing field?! Government should forget about trying to run the country businesses and let private industry drive the economy -
Maybe this "free movement" government should bring in some heavy hitting consultants to fix the country. Where are the tourists? Why is it so hard for government to get smaller and stop spending more than they make?
Simple- some of the bigger companies need to band together and take the government to court for invasion of privacy! Imagine how confidential that information will be sitting on a desk in the tax office! Absolute crap! Improve laws to go after those who have questionable declarations. A simple system of investigation, requests for clarification, fines, etc. I know people who won't be opening offices here as a result and others that will close - This is Not a police state people!
