Well done Mr Beek. You have ascended the world highest peek safely, something that less than seven thousand human souls have achieved to date. That is a very small percentage of humanity and i am sure my countrymen in the Bahamas are justly proud of you. My only question is did you plant a Bahamas flag at the summit or was it not practical to do so ?

National Insurance got rid of their legacy IBM system and implemented a server based system for Insurance administration. The result has been disastrous. Short term Claims which took five days now takes weeks and long term claims like pensions which took one month now can take more than three months and that depends if they find your records. So much for progress. The new system cost over twelve million dollars and counting and the staff is frustrated by the backlog.and feel lke the organization has been set back by decades. interoperability functions between government departments it a pipe dream because of the political interference and the tying of the few professionals hands who choose to stay in the government sector because of slackness. .

This incident highlights the need for annual boat inspections in the Bahamas by qualified individuals. Peoples lives are at sake. We cant afford a repeat of this incident. The government should appoint qualified boat inspectors who can travel to every inhabited island on a annual rotating schedule to inspect all boats. Local government and family island commissioners can be made aware of inspection dates for their various islands and would be responsible for notifying the boat owners. Boats without a valid sticker should remain docked or bought ashore.

BPL seams to have a policy of only installing solar systems in the family islands, the reason being not enough land in New providence for such an installation, but i beg to differ and say that there is enough crown land in the area of the blue hills power station to accommodate a 80MW solar power generation installation....it takes the will to make it happen.

On Is BPL abiding by the rules?

The Government acquired the phill's building for the post office by compulsory acquisition.... which is the power of government to acquire private rights in land without the willing consent of its owner or occupant in order to benefit society. This power is often necessary for social and economic development and the protection of the natural environment.....it is my opinion that no money was involved.and gov just took the building.
