Every week this paper informs and warns Bahamians of a litany of cracks and craters that all find their nexus in poor governance.
When the present government was elected they were capitalized on the response to the hurricane, followed by Covid 19. Two back to back disasters with a potential to impact the Bahamas the likes of which the Bahamas has mercifully not encountered.
When one looks at where we’ve ended up, a lawless recklessness and corruption made worse by a gov’t more intent on racking air miles (when needs go unmet at home) and preaching an embarrassingly transparent hypocrisy that at once whines at and chastises world economies.
So when we read of first responders who cannot approach victims because they lack the protective equipment, our understaffed ill paid hospital systems, teachers forced to teach to standards woefully inadequate for young Bahamians to enter the workforce, etc etc., one is left wondering what the heck is this government doing to serve it’s citizens?
And when one considers the back to back disasters the previous government handled without Covid running amok, spending money to help Bahamians out of work or homeless the wonder must be what was so wrong?
All we’ve accomplished since is to rack up crippling deficits with nothing tangible at hand. New schools? Fully functional government entities, a new prison? Hurricane shelters finished? Who is better off?
So are rape kits not sent stateside for analysis? Only in some cases? Why would the police give false assurance to rape victims undergoing the process?
Was this one of the reasons given by police in their attempts to dissuade the two American rape victims at Pirate’s Cove from filing a report? ie besides lying to them that they’d spoken with the US Embassy and they weren’t prepared to help them? What heck is going on here??
They're just getting round to that now? And there's ole Chester bragging on all his media hits "See for Yourself" an oldie but I guess a goodie?? But where's the data baby!?
Dr Sands is exactly right. What does the Bahamas gain from another political appointment. And why shouldn't the gov't encourage fresh faces and vigor? All we got was another double dipper!
If this government spent as much time doing their jobs as they do flapping their gums and promising and lying this situation might could be avoided.
Two campaigns likely very costly, to cloak the real data on crime in the Bahamas is ludicrous but so believable in this country! And folks lining up to place blame on anything except where it belongs- the RBPF and this gov’t who are more invested in avoiding their sworn responsibilities, and working corruptly with their fellows to add to that ill gotten nest egg.
Blaming the press because they dare report these crimes? Call for action on blatantly corrupt behavior? The police got caught doing they’re usual schtick of coercing victims not to go forward with filing a police report.(esp now with those crime ## going up despite those best efforts)
The girls story hasn’t wavered, they were told they’d be delayed and miss their ship departure, if they pursued chgs, they lied when they said they’d called the US Embassy. They lied about the rape kits. They lied about calling in the FBI. They never reported that tourists had been raped, they and their little friends featured in these pages…started lying and spreading rumours as soon as it was learned all of the above was now part of the news cycle in the US, then the world. And there were pictures of their bruises, the drug testing. A flood of pictures of different women not the victims dancing on bars, having sex etc..suddenly flooded social media.
Johnnie the mouth here hoped Trump’s huge judgment meant the Bahamas could sue for big bucks, but he got it backwards, and he’d better be ready when/if those gals come back for his hide!
First of all, it has always amazed me that the Bahamas allows nurses to practice even in theatre ops without the government’s acceptance of their certification of training and issuing them the proper licensing?
There’s likely a few of reasons that comes to mind taking into account the history of gov’t here.
#1/ Nurses w/o their permits and/or license are likely paid less,so.. . Does not having their lic mean they’re unable to join the union? #2/ Do hospitals here insure unlicensed nurses? I would think unlicensed nurses would be cost more to insure, therefore my inkling is they are not insured. #3/ If men and women have studied, paid their tuition and graduated how is it that any governing body keep their deserved certificates from them? #3/ In light of the gov’t’s poor choices, low wages, poor working conditions and being held hostage by said government, those lucky souls who can get their license are likely to be on the first plane off the Rock for any other place, and there are aplenty who will welcome them with open arms and a living wage.
Dr Darville said an ethics committee will be part of the programme…You have to have watchful eyes.. to make sure everything is above board…no one is coerced into giving their organs”
And therein lies the rub! We have no watchful eyes. no ethical standards and with criminal organ harvesting now rampant, netting big $$$ it stands to reason the Bahamas wants to jump right in.

So Davis has not had this conversation already?
The few cases that actually get to court are rare, and rarer still are convictions.
And this ridiculous statement by Davis means there is no will to act upon these mere tips of the iceberg that is the corruption in the RBPF.

I read no threats here, just the unvarnished truth to an egoist who true to form, refuses to own his duplicity.
I recall PM Chrètien’s wry remark in the ‘93 campaign to the Tory attack ads featuring his facial defect and it’s appropriate here.
“It’s true I talk out of the side of my mouth. I’m not a Tory, I don’t talk out of both sides!”
