It is not the issue of how quickly a person should vote ......... it is the immersion and preparation of a non-citizen to become a Bahamian that is our challenge ......... and the secrecy surrounding WHO gets citizenship from our political leaders (there's not a publicly announced ceremony for our new citizens).
For any Bahamian Government to operate effectively & efficiently, it needs a workforce (like any comapny) ........ However, the triple whammy that our Government faces is WHO is hired, for WHAT, and WHERE ........ 29 inhabited islands make it even worse, as so many services are duplicated ................... ADD the British hierarchy curse, paper-intensive records-keeping, and bureaucratic management systems causes things to (further) crawl at a snail's pace.
So, even though the private sector pundits (like ORG) can complain about the Government civil service, they do not have the challenges to duplicate services on 29 islands and cays with the built-in transportation and communication costs & other problems of a Third World country.
Apples & Oranges debate .......... For what its worth
The Government needs to use Bahamasair for international tourist airlift ONLY ......... Contract out the Family Island routes to domestic charter companies as is done with mailboat services AND regulate the prices (as with mailboats) ...... and get rid of the excess staff as well.
After all .......... Bahamasair is the National Flag carrier and not a national airline.
The PLP or FNM governments are all ballsless in dealing with the biggest issue confronting the Bahamian people ............. land ownership & access to available family land
Minnis has done what every post-Pindling PM has done ........ given out token parcels in strategic islands for political brownie points with disingenuous fanfare
Even though the vast majority of Bahamian land is "Crown Land" ........ several important islands are mired in 300 years of "generational land" curse (especially Exuma, Long Island, Eleuthera, Cat Island, Crooked Island & Acklins) ........ These Loyalist plantation islands have been burdened with archaic land tenure systems that even the best/wily lawyers in this country have challenges resolving (honestly).
The time has come for a Bahamian PM/Cabinet to stand up or MAN up and resolve the land tenure challenges that plague our country .......... Land is wealth. Bahamians need land access
Why did the Minnis administration prefer Marlon Johnson over Simon Wilson???? ....... Did Peter or Minnis decide that?? ......... Look how that has worked out for the FNM ...... "F" Grade
Did Duane Sands say this while he was sitting around the Cabinet table?? ........ Or in public forums while he sat around the Cabinet table??? ............. If not, he is being disingenuous now (nothing new for the rejected ones)
The FOUR PMs and/or their Ministers of Finance all knew that this money pot was boiling since 1967 ......... but they chose to kick the money can down the road until we have come to the bank of the river (or edge of the cliff)
Threee issues:
1. Majority Rule style development (for the masses) ..... with no real commitment to a long term National Development Plan.
2. Dependency on low skills-based tourism or enclave banking/FDI (Stafford Sands model) ...... with no real HR development strategy using education reform, skills training & RnD.
3. Taking care of the "friends/families/lovers" ............ with no real changes to the old regressive tax structure to create more wealth (SWF)
