Yep. No matter that the murders in this country are at a record high, JetSki thugs are going wild on the country's beaches beating and raping tourists at will or that robbery and violence on our streets are a normal course of daily life,...our fearless police and defense forces are spending their valuable time tracking down a plant being moved across an imaginary line to protect Bahamians against something that is now legal or decriminalized in most of the G20. Pot, legal or decriminalized in most of the G20, is still being pursued as a "crime" by our illustrious polices forces. With all the challenges in our country these days, don't these guys have anything better to do than chase plants being moved across imaginary lines?
He keeps ranting about "$40mm houses", what are there, like 2 of those? Any idea how much VAT and duty is paid to build a $40mm house????
People built their homes and invested in the Bahamas based on certain representations by the government, such as the $60,000 RPT cap. If the government feels they can break this deal AFTER money has been spent buying land and building homes they are going to alienate the very people that are propping up the Bahamian economy, and yes, these people will leave and go to more friendly jurisdictions like T&C and Cayman.
Why not collect the hundreds of millions in RPT arrears out there before threatening to increase the rate on people that ARE actually paying their RPT on an annual basis?
Hard to imagine a more poorly thought out and badly conceived idea. This will destroy downtown Nassau, ruin the delicate environment of that part of PI and infest the Bahamas with cheap, infected boorish tourists that we could do without. Not to mention the gangs of out of control jet ski thugs will have a field day beating, raping and selling illegal drugs to unsuspecting cruise ship tourists.
