It all starts with education without which they can achieve little. First they need to find a way to motivate our young people to not only stay in school but to make the most of whatever is on offer.
Not getting pregnant once a year would also go a long way to giving them a leg up out of poverty rather than getting a leg over.

The writer is due a huge thank you from us all for bringing these issues to the forefront.
The Environmental concerns facing this country, and there are many, are not even on the horizon of most Bahamians.
One has only to look at the parlous state of our reefs being ravaged daily by a coral disease for which there is no known cure and the resulting diminishing returns from our fisheries. Conchs in particular are becoming increasingly under threat due to poor fisheries management, the grouper ban which went into effect two days ago has been instrumental in saving that fishery though many continue exploit it during the closure.
The destruction of our mangroves and wetlands continues in the name of foreign investment as does the desecration of our oceans, seabed's and beaches by the cruise ship industry.
The indiscriminate dumping which is a plague on the land in just about every island in our archipelago not to mention the burgeoning threat of sea-level rises from global warming.
Without watchdogs such as DEPP and environmental protection legislation with teeth in place, the Bahamas is in danger of missing the boat on the preservation our environment, in fact for some areas and species that ship has already sailed.
But as long as crab crawling and conch salad on the menu all is well, and in our complacency we continue to hurry towards the great empty.

Minister, why don't you also publish a list of the job skills possessed by these 88 workers you wish to fob off on the private sector as many of these government hires can't and don't do much more during the course of the day than eat lunch and look at their phone, come late and leave early.
