Christie really does know how to screw the honest hard-working members of the electorate. Takes all that shiny VAT money under the promise of using it to pay down the debt, but instead he'll force the minimum wage to go up (to adjust the wages of the lower paid members of the public for the VAT he is stealing from them) Then what's the betting that he will authorise MP's, teachers, police, firemen and all other Government workers a huge 7.50% pay increase in the near future. Guess who are the only ones who get screwed ? Yes, the middle class, who pay and pay and pay their VAT, only to see it squandered by this useless man and his cronies

This is just the beginning....Government will soon start prosecuting businesses that their cronies have envied for years, and make it impossible to do business under the new tax regime. Then, surprise, surprise, a buyer will be found for the business who just so happens to be a crony. It sounds just like Robert Mugabe and his farm grabs, or a certain supermarket chain in days gone bye

Sadly, it looks as if gambling is now legalised. So why doesn't the government go the whole hog and have a legitimate, professionally run lottery? At least then there might be some hope that the majority of profits go towards good causes such as hospitals and schools. But, sadly again, I don't think anyone trusts government to run anything in an honest manner

I agree. The sad truth is that being part of the union's leadership is far more lucrative than being on the front line at the schools. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely

I think it's unfair to use every man, woman and child in your estimate. I know that adults (who incur the vast majority of expenses that attract VAT) will have to pay an extra $2,000 each, children nowhere near as much. Thus the original estimate seems reasonable. Also, when talking of averages, some will be above, some below.....this is how an average is arrived at

I had my turn, got my knighthood, couldn't change anything, and now can look forward to a huge pension.

The man is a walking joke. The same man whose restaurant doesn't charge VAT, but adds a gratuity on to bills? The same man who pays hundreds of thousands in cash to settle outstanding bills, going against basic KYC rules? the same man who ducks unions, but is the Corporation's chairman? What exactly is Mr Miller qualified to do, and why is he anywhere near BEC's finances? Please help me understand what role this man plays on our national stage.
