D’Aguilar at this point is doing his job - it’s getting people in here. Quarentine is standing in the way. Cases are standing in the way. The only alternative left is what has been proposed. Simple reality is the rest of the health officials need to catch up studies that at the end day point to the fact that
1. the fatality rate estimates has been hugely overgrown 2. realize that it is likely they are working PCR tests that are way way over sensitive so they pick up viral fragments, rather than infectious disease 3. And finally admit that their direction with lockdown and restriction are likely costing lives.
Peer reviewed study dropped to day that estimates that at excess death not related to covid is likely around 75000 persons between March and August (half the covid confirmed deaths in the us at the time) Vast majority where those with Dementia, heart disease and diabetes - not covid related deaths...There is no conception of this the Bahamas... our government is flying blind...
**The fundamental truth is that the government response prioritizes some peoples lives at the detriment of others...cancer didn’t take the year off because COVID joined the party, neither did vascular diseases...in comparison COVID is pussy cat to these other killers**... but to acknowledge this fact, Medical officials need to take a slice of humble pie and admit COVID is not the be all end all, maybe the were a little wrong and simply adopt a broader view of public health. One that encompasses and protects the need for diagnostics, mental health, education and employment as part and parcel to a healthy society with same force with which they have sought to protect the 0.26% of population are likely to succumb to this disease...
I read that story about qantas flights to nowhere too, they were also selling off fully loaded inflight service carts laden with booze - sold out in the first day....Bahamasair has got to be inventive...more debt ain’t the answer.
Lockdowns have been tantamount to holding your breadth under water to escape what you think is a flock of killer flying dinosaurs. You buy yourself a minute but now you’re exhausted and you’ve got to drowning to think of on top of those killer flying dinosaurs....which as it turns out are actually seagulls and not much a threat at all (unless you’re allergic to seagulls) but now that you wasted all this energy fretting about killer dinosaurs you really are f***ed and so exhausted, you drown....That’s story everywhere alas...the only way through is they way they did in every other pandemic - soldier on, wash hands, sneeze into your arm not peoples faces and if you vulnerable sit your ass at home!! The young get immunity, Corporate pill pushers don’t get their happy ending, economy limps a long and well, the earth keeps turning...
Well really homicides are around 120 and vehicular accidents annually are about 60 but fried chicken related deaths - man - that’s like 650 every year!! Ban fried chicken!! Ban the mac and cheese!! Mandatory exercise for all!!!
Really? You think so.. GB lockdown came in on July 23rd at that time there was 81 cases..? We're seeing what 600+ cases today...nice one lockdown super effective! Yep lets do more of those!! What happened is they had a backlog of tests at private clinics and folded them into the nation system around the same time which created a artificial steep peak at the end of July, cases in GB still grew significantly quadrupling over the next month. What is more likely is that they have hit community herd immunity in Freeport the hotspot in GB. Undiagnosed cases are typically x10-12 more than reported cases as rule of thumb, so with 600 cases Freeport/GB has likely 6-8k in actual infections and with a population of 26k (I recognize gb as a whole has closer to 51k but Freeport is where most cases are) and which lines up with a HIT (herd immunity threshold) of 20-30% of the population. Bimini tells a similar story likely 600-700 (56x10 or 12) which is 25% of population (roughly 2500). Maybe it's just a coincidence but it's interesting. In Sweden it's they've estimated 20-30% population have been infected...and basically the pandemic is over there. In New York antibodies studies where coming in the region of 19%-33% of the population...Anyone's guess but interesting the numbers are lining up that way in areas were there has been a slow down...I'm sure there are many example that don't fit this logic but interesting none the less.
Funny John I'm not see a tumble of the magnitude at all. Think you're looking at some flawed data there. To the contrary their positivity rate has shot up to around 25%. Florida with a relatively relaxed approach has seen larger declines. ?
Any you're missing the point - Masks and social distancing don't work against and airborne disease. In fact they give people a false sense of protection which encourages them to engage in activities which make it more likely to transfer the virus.
The first half of this editorial is most depressing thing I have ever ready...We are actually living in a propagandist state. The fact that the tribune is advocating to convince people that it's good to inform on them is shocking...No it's not the same as a house on fire. We talking poorly understood virus and a policy that empirically and scientifically has been shown to be infective and possibly worse the disease it's self. We are talking about the Bahamas being supposed democratic free state that has been converted into a Medical Dictorship without the slightest bit of evidence, or more pointedly has merely used the excuse that many other countries around the world have made the same mistake - robbing person's freedoms for months, crushing their jobs, crushing their businesses and a destroying their moral. I wish the tribune would actually do some investigating and actually challenge the status quo. They actually have a wealth of info in house -Tally up obituaries see if there has actually been an uptick in deaths for example...ask difficult questions of the medical professionals that seem blind to the increase crime, and diagnostic slowdowns or that it is now well established that there is no good reason to keep children out of schools as around the globe and in USA - guess what surprise - schools are not a source of super spreading the virus.
Two weeks ago, it was **"Abaco - nobody cares if you go to beach after 10pm"**. Now it's double fines if breach health protocols...This is just a disgusting abuse of power. And ignores his past failures and reinvents them as success... **Ya lockdowns don't work!!** And treating this country like your personal emotional yo-yo is un becoming as our a leader. Minnis if you're following the science then please share the science of banning open access to beaches, forcing people to stay inside and punitively coercing people's freedoms. Show us the science behind cloth mask actually working for a airborne virus. Explain to us how allowing people to go to air-conditioned churches to sing makes any sense when that is precisely the activity linked to super spreading events. Dude you are soooooo making this up as you go along, which I (to be fair) get, but please at least get the fundamentals right... **Low risk of transmission from surfaces, low risk from outdoor activities, high risk form air-conditioned indoor group activities, low risk to working age population, low risk to children, High Risk to persons of 65 and up or with serious co-morbidities..**. Your response to this go to church and then everybody pile into the house with Grandma! Jeez dude... . . Fun fact: Around 2500 people die in the bahamas every year, thats around 200 per month, around 7 per day..Most of them from exactly the same things that put them at risk from COVID19...
