Dee00... I have foreign parentage as well and was born in The Bahamas. But my mother did her due diligence and ensured I was given the proper documentation that was required to receive citizenship.

I have no empathy because under the current law I wouldn't be considered Bahamian, and should I have the gall to marry a foreign man my children wouldn't be Bahamian either.

They need to get these immigration laws together. To many loopholes and mixup that allow for discrimination.

That being said, let his parents get him Haitian status and then when he his 18 let him apply for citizenship to The Bahamas- as stated in the constitution.

BahamaRed says...

Exactly...her situation was made such by a parent who was looking for status in another country.
Her mother was a native-born Haitian and therefore according to this article she was entitled to Haitian citizenship. That being said her daughter should have also received citizenship based on the law.
But the mom didn't do her due diligence and did this child a disservice and now begging and pleading for the government to fix a situation brought about by ignorance and a sense of entitlement.

Total bs... smh

You've been here 22years and still speak "broken" English. A clear indication they have no desire to assimilate, merely take what they can.

BahamaRed says...

Sorry I disagree... his parents came here illegally to benefit from this country's free education. It's awesome to see that he took full advantage of what many Bahamians take for granted.

But the fact is, he's still in a country illegally. So therefore he needs to go and legally obtain the Haitian passport that he his entitled to and then legally go about getting himself off to school.

I'm tired of this issue... people coming here illegally and having children, then they don't apply for any type of papers for them. Then when something happens they cry that they are stateless. These Haitian parents are doing a disservice to their children.

The Jean-Tony case has opened the flood gate for this. First the girl with a brain cyst and now this student.

SMH.... stop coming to people's country illegally, having children, and then demanding the government to give your child status.

BahamaRed says...

Under the law she is entitled to a Haitian passport. Go get her one of those and quit using this child to get the government to alter immigration laws.

I wonder if they would pull this stunt in the USA.

BahamaRed says...

So they aren't going to disclose the circumstances that caused her disappearance. Smh

Oh look people we voted no on a constitutional referendum that would have allowed her to receive Bahamaian documents. And now 2 years later we keep having immigration issues that are so easily solved.

Smh... for a small country I fail to see why immigration is so difficult.

BahamaRed says...

"ThisIsOurs" exactly. Pedestrians unfortunately do not know how to cross the road. They act as though they own the street. They cross wherever and whenever they feel.

At the same time drivers also need to drive with a bit more caution.

BahamaRed says...

"TalRussell" Ronnie Butler was not an elected official who held a public office.

So how do you feel about military funerals? Guess the government shouldn't pay for those either. And bear in mind there are more police officers, prison officers, and defense force officers than MP's or Cabinet Ministers.

What needs to happen is better budgeting so the government can keep up with ALL it's required obligations.

BahamaRed says...

"Well_mudda_take_sic"... go and get correct facts. No funeral costs 200 grand, much less an official funeral. Speak on what you know... here are the facts- the government gives $10,000 towards the funeral expenses, as well as pay for the casket spray, and the printing of official funeral programmes.

So I fail to see how that exceeds 200 grand. Smh

As for "TalRussell", after serving the people of this country in the highest capacity the least we as a country can do is to provide them an honorable funeral. And it doesn't matter what party they are with, if they have served as a cabinet minister they are entitled to an official funeral.

MP's receive a state- recognized funeral and prime ministers and governor generals receive the highest honor of a state funeral- which all expenses are paid.

I hate people talking what they don't know....
