I think a robust expansion of NHI as well as a mandatory enrollment of individuals without private health insurance can be used to cover the short fall. Perhaps a fee can be charged that goes directly Public Health services.

This is a failure of planning and local government practices that were established in the 1800s.

You don't even need a firetruck, plenty of European countries have fire wagons that are horse or bike drawn and even ones you can hitch to the back of any vehicle. Whoever is responsible whether it be the island administrator or chief councilor should offer their resignation.

Island Councilors need to take their jobs seriously, as well as be given the power to make necessary changes. Many times people on the council want to make changes but can't facilitate them due to the limited powers local government has.

What concerns me is that public policies for investment are not blatant and expressed enough where troubled investors like this think they can just reapply.

This wouldn't fly in parts of the EU, Singapore, and US. We should be clear from that start that if your in a mess you can't invest.

I don't understand. Do public planners in this country actually do their jobs. 10,000 Acres is ridiculous. Lyford Cay is about 1,000 acres for reference.

It is the governing bodies of yesterday who started this cycle of inefficiency and slackness that causes the youth to leave. Because said governing forces have not gone under any major reform from the 90s.

As much as I would like the advancement of infrastructure in this country, this proposal just give the SOE of BPL an excuse not be responsible in producing enough power..

That is the same issue that is happening WSC in South Eleuthera, a National Water Corporation that relies on a private vendor for its water. In reality it results in the Nationalized Company paying more.

Their has to be higher than normal fees associated with our airspace in order to ensure equipment, facilities, and training necessary for us to take over our airspace can be payed for.

The airlines re going to have to get accustomed to the extra fees they have managed to avoid for the past 50+ years.

Plane and Car manufacturers have been sued many times for the misuse of their product. Especially when it comes to health and safety. Companies can be held liable if they don't properly ensure the use of their products.

What I don't get is why are you arguing against this case, Are you in favour of the loose restrictions on guns? Do you think that America and the US government shouldn't be responsible on cracking down on smugglers operations.

This is more than a blame game but an action against the ease of smugglers operations, whereas your argument offers no solution to fight gun menace.
Do we just hope bad guy stop being bad? or do we make any effort of their harder!

Do you realize this country is spending millions on the easy flow of illicit drugs, weapons. ammunition, poachers, and illegal immigrants.

Now let me ask how do we stop illegals from coming to our shores do we continue to chase the bad actors locally or do you fix the problem in Haiti.
Wonder which is more effective?

I'm not surprised about the presences and ideas of "Ameriboos" in the Bahamas, but this is really taking the cake. Why would the USA want a island right next to it for any purpose.

It doesn't really help them militarily, it confuses the immigration situation, and doesn't eliminate the problems that plagued GB development in the first place.

If they want a military base they can just ask to build a new one or expand the one they have already in this country.
Secondly, it will stir up the immigration situation evermore in this archipelago. Instead of boats trying to make their way west they'll be doing all types of funny matters to get up the chain. It would give the US coast Guard a bigger job then they have now which I doubt they want. The rest of the Bahamas would be a mess. Evermore, the US doesn't want another Guantanamo Bay, this time instead of terrorist being housed, you get immigrants. Not good in their political climate.

Next thing I'll retort is the issue of Gb development. If you look at the development of the Bahamas historically, Grand Bahama was touted as the least developed island. Its lack of of a natural harbour and its flat terrain has made it a unattractive development. The Hawksbill Agreement may have been flawed but it was just a bubble that struggled till it pop due to the harsh nature of developments.

In reality the one good industry GB is stellar for Lumber is not looked at and turned down due to the mistakes of the past.

But lets say the Handover of GB cause a major boom in their economy. Is really all good? It seems that if the US acquired GB it would just disenfranchise the rest of the tourism industry in the Archipelago as well as ensure that no local Grand Bahamian will be able to afford a house in the coming future. The Bahamian Braindrain will be even more intense and economically the entire country will move closer to ruin.

If you know geopolitics and history you would know that you should never separate islands or archipelagos into 2 states. They'll only be less successful.

On Should PLP sell GB to US?
