The reason, I believe, is this; there is just too much liquid money, cash, floating around and the banks do not need or want it. sucessive governments have increased protection to borrowers who hold mortgages and thus the mortgage lending market has become increasingly unprofitable and so undesirable to the banks. As the banks can no longer make a profit lending out deposited funds they no longer want them. The extremely high cost of employing people means that the banks do not want you dealing in person with a high cost employee but do want you to do your banking transactions on line where they are automated.

It is time to talk frankly about the state of NIB, ... .... ... the fund is a complete disaster as everyone can plainly see, . ..Set up years ago by Pingling to buy the retirees vote, . ... ...It is now like paying money to a horse race track side tote, ..... Like betting your retirement on a failing horse. ... ...That is so old and tired it can't make it round the course. ''
Buying unsold government bonds is what the fund has mainly done..... .... ... .. .. .... And shares in BOB bought surely just for fun. ... ... BOB's a slush fund to help them cronies out,.. ... ... ..NIB is about astransparent as a glass of Guinness stout. sigh.

Socrates. It takes money to run a business, primarily expenses and interest on loans. If, and this is an example only, it takes 5% of gross turnover to meet the costs of running a gas station then as the net profit as a percentage of turnover decreases then it will reach a point where the business is not meeting expenses and becomes uneconomic.

Forty nine years of mismanagement... .. ... ..They have wasted most that we contributors lent........Sigh...

Yes TollRussell, it does. It is interesting to note as well that BAARK is at essence the creation of one ex-patriot who being a resident was not granted the right to work and so turned her considerable skills and energy to tackling the stray dog overpopulation. Just think what could have been accomplished over the last decades by the hundreds of ex-pats who have been denied the opportunity to contribute due to our collective xenophobia and government intransience.

On BAARK given support by government
