Merit pay by student, teacher or school carries with it the same inherent inequalities that exist now with the Bahamian separate and unequal (aka public & private) educational system.
Parents who PAY to send their children to private schools or whose children are drafted from the private schools for sports or academics are given a leg up on the 80% who remain in the trenches of the public school system (either ghettoized or marginalized in the Out Islands).
The system has to be totally dismantled and restructured, but there are too many special interests for that to ever happen.
When will the Government freeze the assets of Perry Christie and his 2012-17 Cabinet??? That required a Commission of Inquiry from DAY ONE in May 2017. They were the most corrupt administration in the history of this country ....... $3 billion of debt and borrowings and nothing tangible to show for it in 5 years............ Thieves.
Home value placed on education is compounded with the institutional constraints that have been engrained over the decades ........ Change is a stubborn thing ........ a vicious cycle that is hard to break without personal effort, social vision, and public policy
We have had the same separate and unequal (public/private) educational system in The Bahamas for 100 years ............. UBP, PLP and FNM governments all alike ....... The system benefits the social upper class (whether black or white) ........... and the token lower class handups for political or religious reasons.
